JOB SUMMARY :
The Senior Payroll Specialist oversees procedures and processes while effectively handling inquiries and requests related to payroll preparation and distribution. This role meticulously processes a wide array of payroll transactions, encompassing salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and deductions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Additionally, they are responsible for maintaining employee records and executing updates, including new hires, terminations, and pay rate changes. A key aspect of the role involves guaranteeing compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and best practices, while also facilitating smooth audits by providing necessary records and documentation. This role will continuously evaluate and recommend improvements to payroll software, systems, and procedures to optimize efficiency. They demonstrate flexibility by performing any other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the payroll department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Works collaboratively with HR partners for coding accuracy and consistency and to ensure relevant paperwork is in order.
Performs basic math calculations to verify earnings and deductions are correct.
Generates and analyzes payroll reports for management and accounting purposes. Provide insights and recommendations based on payroll data analysis.
Prepares for and participates in internal and external payroll audits. Ensure that payroll records, reports, and documentation are accurate, organized, and readily accessible for audits.
Communicates in a professional manner with employees regarding payroll inquiries.
Understands the importance of confidentiality.
Multitasks in a fast-paced environment.
Coaches and supports junior staff.
JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :

- Reviews payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
- Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
- Maintains or oversees the maintenance of employee records.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
- Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
- Identifies and recommends updates to payroll software, systems, and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION :
DEGREE / DIPLOMA AREA OF STUDY REQUIRED / PREFERRED
Bachelor's degree Business or accounting Preferred
EXPERIENCE :
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AREA OF EXPERTISE REQUIRED / PREFERRED
3 years Payroll - Senior Position Preferred
