Position Summary:

Responsible for leading and coordinating the design, procurement, implementation, and commissioning phases of our PLC projects. The PLC Project Manager has a strong impact on the project’s success and must have strong skills in the core competencies of safety, quality, profitability, staff development, trade partner management, and client relations at the project level. Helps to own operational excellence for the project, including a commitment to the client’s goals, expectations, and the company’s budgeted profitability.

Responsibilities:

  • Owns the project and leads the team (including owners, install partners, and external stakeholders) in the safe and successful execution of the project by providing subject matter expertise regarding scope, resources, schedule, and budget for automation projects.
  • Identifies labor, material, and time requirements for projects by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents; demonstrates a thorough understanding of the contract documents and establishes a plan to implement all requirements, including compliance with all internal policies, procedures and subcontracts.
  • Takes the lead in owning project financials and cashflow management through identifying, recording, and resolving any issue on all reports and projections; ensures proper cash flow and financial performance and computes costs by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements and is responsible for maintaining the project budget to its forecasted values; assist with creation of proposal scope of work and pricing for projects. Understand the original margin plan and partner with the Project Director to develop strategies to enhance the margin plan and monitor its effect on the final profit outcome.
  • Oversees the preparation of material and vendor orders, recording receipts of materials, and approving payments.
  • In conjunction with the team, owns project schedule and takes the lead in developing, executing, and maintaining the schedule through closeout; including coordinating the team’s workload, schedules, time off, etc.
  • Plans and analyzes assigned projects, establishes schedules and project parameters, and sets procedures to accomplish system objectives, including complex contracting applications; identifies deliverables and monitors performance to ensure all aspects of the contract documents are met.
  • Prepares for onsite installation and repairs by examining building layout, anticipating difficulties, gathering materials, and coordinating onsite work, as necessary.
  • Oversees specification of various hardware components such as instrumentation, PLCs, communication systems, and industrial control panels to ensure all technical requirements and quality standards are being met.
  • Oversees the design and configuration of PLC/SCADA networks, as well as the generation of test procedures and forms.
  • Leads the review and analysis for each building component or system to identify risks and provide technical building expertise; develop risk plans, communicate issues to the team (owners, designers, trade partners, internal stakeholders); provide guidance on mitigating/resolving risks.
  • Meets with contractors and owners to discuss scope of project, budgets, performance, and close-out; represents the company by serving as a direct contact to the client.
  • Responsible for preparing subcontractor requests for quotations (RFQ) including scope statements, plans and milestone dates, specs, bonding requirements, and billing schedule of values.
  • Responsible for qualifying subcontractor proposals and supervising work of assigned project staff, including subcontractors and installers.
  • Responsible for change order management by recommending solutions, facilitating quotes, and closing orders.
  • Maintains client satisfaction by investigating concerns, implementing corrective action, and communicating with customers and staff.
  • Establishes professional relationship and communicates with field support staff and customers and their representatives; interfaces constantly to maintain accurate status reports and project reviews.
  • Documents work by completing paperwork on each job including daily time, progress and duration, and file maintenance.
  • Responsible for obtaining acceptance and timely sign-off of the project by the client.
  • Keeps current on all McCarthy projects concerning installation, operation, maintenance, service, and repair of PLC systems.
  • Continually enforces safety to the highest standards and maintains security and accountability of company-issued and procured assets by recording use, wear, and conditions.
  • Assigns staff responsibilities and develop/maintain staff responsibilities; lead and mentor a team of engineers and other technical resources (both internal and external trade partners) to build a strong, capable project delivery team.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement and provide training to team members, ensuring each individual develops to their fullest potential; communicate ongoing performance feedback to project staff through annual performance reviews, as well as regular one-on-one conversations.
  • Understand core values and demonstrate them in interactions with internal and external stakeholders, including establishing and promoting a positive image of McCarthy within the community.


Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in a PLC project engineering environment required
  • 3 years of dedicated project management experience preferred
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Programming, Information Systems, or similar technical studies is preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of control system technologies including PLC, SCADA, and DCS systems is required
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical, electrical, and plumbing plans is required
  • Understanding of control system network topology
  • Familiarity with instrumentation (e.g. plant sensors or meters) and the ability to size/select the proper instrumentation for the application
  • GMP and validation experience
  • Ability to travel as necessary, including overnight stays
  • Positive attitude with an eagerness to learn and a desire to excel
  • Self-motivated and can work well with others
  • Proficient communicator
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
  • Must have a customer-focused mindset
  • Must have a proven commitment to Safety
  • Implementation of detailed workplans and THA (Task Hazard Analysis)
  • Must be able to use a computer proficiently
  • Must have experience with the Windows operating system including the Office software suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Must be able to safely and legally operate a vehicle
  • Minimum age 18
  • Proof of Identity and Employment Authorization


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to wear helmets, safety goggles, fall protection harness and safety boots to safely perform job duties
  • This position is occasionally physical and requires regular use of hands, fingers, walking, stooping, kneeling, and climbing ladders
  • This position requires employees to occasionally lift or move up to 10 lbs
  • Must be able to safely use a ladder with a 300lb total weight limit
  • Must be able to maneuver access areas as small as 30” vertical x 45” horizontal
  • Must be able to comfortably and routinely access rooftops with extension and/or fixed ladders at heights of 15’ to 20’, and occasionally, up to 50 feet
  • This role may be exposed to variable weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, heights, risk of electrical shock, noisy operating equipment, and other variable environmental conditions based on location
