McClatchy is looking for a video producer to join us in building a major component of McClatchy’s future. This is a paid editorial position focused on producing original video content across multiple platforms.
This individual will be required to pitch, report and produce daily and long-term video stories both for publication and social media. As part of some assignments, this person will also be required to shoot and edit video.
Video producers play a critical role, working closely with newsroom colleagues to tell the most important and timely video stories. This individual will be required to pitch, report and produce outstanding daily visual journalism and long-term visual stories, as well as to aggressively search, aggregate and seek permission for digital video content from third-party sources around the web – in accordance with the news of the day.
This individual will also produce live content for our on-site player and social media channels.
A strong work ethic, the ability to multitask, to quickly produce high-quality video and the aptitude to work across short- and long-term deadlines is required.
Responsibilities include:
Generate ideas for daily multimedia stories that appeal to local and national online audiences
Generate ideas for content that appeal to vertical, social, and streaming audiences
Content creation, video, audio, motion graphics for video verticals, Instagram, TikTok
Shoot and or record and edit news and vertical content
Curate, aggregate video from outside sources
Curate YouTube channels
Collaborate with editors/reporters to develop creative approaches to digital storytelling
Write stories, headlines, captions, summaries, social media posts, and stories that are engaging and accurate
Requirements:
College degree preferred or equivalent experience
3-5 years digital journalism experience required
Familiarity with DSLR and professional video cameras, capturing sound and video/audio editing
Newsroom experience and/or internship(s), preferably in news and/or social media
Strong video editing ability and storytelling a must
Experience with social media a plus
Visual sensibility and experience contributing to interactive and multimedia work, with creative concepts and implementation
Reliable news judgment, advanced communication skills needed
Ability to edit video using Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut X
Ability to use Adobe After Effects and Audition a plus
An understanding of audience trends, SEO and digital media are important
Ability to quickly edit video
