TITLE: Nurse
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Licensed registered nurse.
- Prior experience working with school-ages children.
- Current CPR certification.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Support Services
JOB GOAL: To strengthen and facilitate the educational process by modifying or removing health-related barriers to learning in individual students and by promoting an optimal level of wellness for students.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Upholds professional standards, the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act, and other state and local statutes and regulations.
- Applies appropriate theory as basis for decision-making in nursing practice.
- Establishes and maintains a comprehensive School Health Services program.
- Collects and uses information about the health and development status of the student in a systematic manner to determine a nursing diagnosis.
- Develops and implements a nursing care plan with specific goals and interventions delineating school nursing actions unique to a student’s needs.
- Assesses student responses to nursing actions, in order to revise the data base, nursing diagnosis, and nursing care plan to determine progress made toward goal achievement.
- Assumes responsibility for continuing education and professional development and contributes to the professional development of others.
- Collaborates and participates with others in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating school health and community services.
- Contributes to nursing and school health through innovations in theory and practice and participating in research.
- Collaborates with others in planning for a safe environment including identification and notification of safety hazards to appropriate school personnel.
- Serves as a direct link between physicians, families, and community agencies to assure access and continuity of health care for students.
- Other duties as requested.
