McClendon Center operates programs in two locations, a day program near Metro Center and an outpatient service clinic in the NOMA section of DC. The Center has revenues of approximately $6 million, with contracts from the Department of Behaviorial Health, three Managed Medicaid Organizations, and grants from various foundations.

McClendon Center is a respected and highly rate agency in the District of Columbia. The Center is also the only independent mental health agency in the District to be accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.


Job Description


BASIC FUNCTIONS:

The Program Manager (PM) of Community Support will serve as the point person and manager for the Community Support Specialist (CSS) teams. The PM will implement best practices to meet DBH contract requirements in an organized and timely manner. The PM is responsible for managing CSS staff to ensure that clients are receiving exceptional support in support of their mental health goals and recovery. This is a hands-on, staff focused role requiring the incumbent to coordinate with various individuals, teams, and outside agencies to ensure efficient management of client’s daily and long-term needs. The PM will ensure that staff are supported with appropriate training as well as regular, scheduled administrative supervision to empower staff to meet position requirements. The PM is to serve as a leader of Community Support and an active member of the management team.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Manage all Community Support Specialists, requiring flexibility to address urgent team or client needs.

  • Manages the day-to-day operations and resource allocation for Community Support Specialists, working closely with a Licensed Clinical Manager to ensure clinical best practices are upheld.

  • Ensures that the team’s daily schedules comply with position requirements to include timely outreach and efficient follow-up in the community.

  • Will create and consistently track deadlines for outreach and documentation and ensure that staff are meeting requirements in a timely manner.

  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training Community Support Specialists, in collaboration with the Clinical Manager.

  • Tracks individual productivity weekly and addresses individual staff needs in order to meet productivity requirements.

  • Tracks program statistics through qualitative measures and reports to management team members as scheduled.

  • Attends team meetings to include daily and weekly clinical rounds. Provides updates as needed during meetings and follows through in a timely manner on objectives outlined.

  • Serves as point person for multiple collateral contacts to include family members, guardians, external provider groups, etc.

  • Will review staff satisfaction with CSS team members and address areas of need in an effort to improve retention rates.

  • Always maintains the confidentiality of clients and operates within the Code of Ethics of the United States Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association.

  • Develops familiarity with Joint Commission, Medicaid, and DBH standards and compliance requirements, and assists in maintaining Joint Commission accreditation and MHRS certification.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to recognize needs of CSS staff and address areas of improvement through motivational supervision techniques.

  • Ability to make recommendations for wrap around treatment options for clients in need of additional support.

  • Strong training skills to include exceptional knowledge of training areas and ability to ensure understanding from audience.

  • Strong critical thinking skills to anticipate gaps in client services with the ability to create and carry out solutions to resolve care needs.

  • Ability to coordinate with a multi-disciplinary team in a professional manner.

  • Knowledge of sound ethical clinical practice and principles related to the care of mental health clients.

  • A superior communicator, who shares information readily and concisely, listens as well as gives advice, and respects the abilities of others.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • A strong communicator with a passion for team leadership.

  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs including advanced Excel skills.

  • Knowledge and ability to navigate an Electronic Medical Record (EMR), preferably Credible.

  • Ability to relate to adults diagnosed with mental illnesses, using knowledge of concepts, principles, and theories related to mental health and mental illness.

  • Ability to exhibit a high level of organizational skills and ability to prioritize and multi-task without direct supervision.


Qualifications


MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience with case management and community integration preferred.

  • Experience working in a mental healthcare setting highly desired.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Extensive knowledge of DC mental health community services needed.
