POSITION OVERVIEW:
This Associate Scientist will participate in product development projects for McCormick’s US Consumer Products (retail) Division (USCPD) supporting innovation with brands such as Cholula, Zatarain’s, and Simply Asia / Thai Kitchen; with additional support for brand maintenance, assistance to operations, supply chain and cost optimization for Cholula.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Formulates / develops products to achieve consumer acceptance, product performance and manufacturing objectives from concept through commercialization
Plans and prioritizes work to ensure deadlines and business expectations are met
Manages technical proprietary information such as formulas, ingredient technologies, manufacturing processes, etc, so it is accurately and timely updated and protected
Participates on cross functional team calls, including Marketing, Regulatory, Technical Services, Sensory, etc, to share updates and align on action plans
Works with McCormick facilities and external co-packers to develop, launch, and modify products, including participation for plant trials.
Contacts ingredient vendors for information or samples, as required for project activities or as directed by Senior PD staff
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science preferred, Chemistry or a related technical field considered
Minimum one year of product development experience in the food industry (co-op and internship experience will be considered)
Experience in effective collaboration in a team environment
Ability to adapt quickly to changing business priorities
High degree of ownership and professional commitment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong decision-making skills
Passion for food and flavor
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience developing liquid condiments or other liquid products
Culinary skills
Experience with SAP, product formulary and retrieval systems
Curiosity and innovative thinking
Ability to communicate in Spanish language
