Position Summary

McCormick Taylor has an immediate opening for an Entry level or Junior Engineer (Transportation Designer I) to join our Transportation Department in Verona, VA. Projects the candidate may work on include: roadway improvements, intersection design, ADA and pedestrian accommodations, bicycle facility design, trails/greenways, and site improvements, as well as field visits and site investigations. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative team environment.  We are seeking an individual who can handle multiple projects, meet deadlines and work well in an in-person or hybrid remote office environment. Strong written, interpersonal and oral communication skills, attention to detail and ability to organize are required.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic engineering calculations
• Provide design skills beneficial to our project
• Work under the guidance of experienced project engineers/managers
• Able to work on multiple design projects concurrently
• Flexible to work with other disciplines to provide support when needed
• Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for bid advertisement and construction. This will include plans, specifications, and cost estimates.

Qualifications

• 0 to 4 plus years of experience in the design of highway/roadway, civil engineering and transportation projects
• B.S. in Civil Engineering or related field
• EIT certification preferred
• Working knowledge of MicroStation, AutoCAD, InRoads, and/or OpenRoads are a plus
• Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 Suite
• Knowledge of, or ability to learn, transportation design elements, standards, and constructability methods
• Willing and capable of performing occasional field work and have a valid driver’s license
