After School Program Assistant
Job Summary
Under direct supervision, the purpose of the position is to provide staff support in an educational environment, with emphasis on providing support to teachers, staff and students. Position generally works with children in providing basic instruction in reading, writing, math, spelling, art, or other education-related activities. This position assist teachers with all other facets of after school activities. Essential functions as outlined herein are performed according to the needs of the assigned teacher(s)and After School Program Leaders. Performs related work as directed.
Reports to: After School Program Supervisor/Building Principal
Qualifications
- Ability to fulfill the dexterity and physical requirements of the work, and effectively attend to the needs of school age children; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Additional hours training preferred.
- Must complete a fingerprint background check
Essential Functions
- Assist students and teachers in the after school program
- Work with students to reinforce skills initially taught by the teacher
- Guide independent study, enrichment, and remedial work of individual and small groups of students
- Assist with appropriate supervision of students
- Maintain a professional and positive working relationship with the staff and students
- Keep the teacher/coordinator updated on the progress of students
- Other duties as assigned

Evaluation
Performance of duties will be evaluated at least annually in accordance with Aztec School Board Policy.
Physical Rating Level
This position will require the employee to function at a “Medium” physical capacity as defined by Worker’s Compensation Statutes. “Medium” physical capacity indicates the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally or up to 25 pounds frequently.
