Job Summary:
The Loss Prevention Specialist evaluates, educates, and provides instruction and training in facility loss prevention related to point-of-sale compliance, security, inventory accuracy, procedural compliance, and management of the data in the inventory system.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Works with and through management to develop and implement actions that protect company assets and assures consistency across all areas of the organization.
- Reviews pertinent records and reports to determine compliance with control and audit systems that result in a safe, productive, and profitable operation.
- Makes training and procedural recommendations and assists in assessing abilities, compliance, and understanding of operational functions.
- Evaluates store signage, and bin label integrity to ensure good visual presentation as well as accuracy in cycle counts and cash register operations.
- Communicates and educates management and key store/facility personnel to follow procedures necessary for store/facility operations.
- Actively works to assure the safety and well-being of employees, customers, and suppliers.
- Works with and through management and store personnel to monitor margins, turns, and shrinkage.
- Monitors markdowns in the point-of-sale system to allow management to track and minimize losses.
- Reports findings to the Loss Prevention Manager and to the Director of Loss Prevention and Operations support.
- Works as a liaison between the store/facility and the inventory management and the accounts payable departments to resolve inventory issues, which may arise.
- Attends meetings and training courses as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Extensive knowledge of retail operations and loss prevention strategies and procedures.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Extensive knowledge of the company’s proprietary point-of-sale solution, MAC21, and other related software.
- Must have a current driver’s license and auto liability insurance.
- Frequent overnight travel is required.
Education and Experience:
- A bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, criminal justice or another industry-related field or equivalent training and experience is required.
- Five or more years of experience in retail loss prevention, security, or law enforcement is required.
- Prior retail management experience is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to establish and maintain a home-based office, within the region assigned, which will include a power source for computer operation, sufficient lighting, circulation, and equipment to allow for reasonable access, safe operation, and professional performance of the job.
- Must be able to access all of the company’s properties to inspect security matters.
- Prolonged periods of standing.
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds at times.
- May need to work nights, weekends, and holidays, and be able to respond to store during closed hours in cases of emergencies.
- Must be able to work in various types of weather.
