Job Summary
The Yard Crewmember is a critical role that involves assisting customers in the lumberyard, operating a forklift, stocking products, and providing general store support.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet customers as they enter the yard and provide a positive first impression.
- Load and unload products safely and accurately into customers', vendors', and company vehicles.
- Respond to customer inquiries about products and services offered.
- Inform store management or supervisor of any customer complaints or requests in a timely manner.
- Move, stock, and rearrange building materials in the yard, warehouse, and interior of the store.
- Perform routine safety checks on forklifts according to company guidelines.
- Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the lumberyard and warehouses by stacking products squarely and picking up bands, chocks, and trash.
- Verify customer or vendor tickets match the merchandise being loaded.
- Cover exposed materials when required to prevent weather damage.
- Cut lumber and other related materials as requested by customers.
- Operate a forklift with precision and care.
- Attend all store meetings and training sessions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrate ability to carry out instructions without constant supervision.
- Remain professional and courteous at all times.
- Display knowledge of weight distribution and loading patterns.
- Adjust controls of machines or vehicles quickly and repeatedly to exact positions.
- Successfully complete all company training and certification requirements regarding equipment usage, including obtaining McCoy's forklift certification.
Education and Experience
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Hold forklift operator certification.
- Complete on-the-job training, including levels 1 and 2 of positional training offered.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of standing and moving around the yard and warehouse.
- Use the three-point hold when getting into trucks and/or forklifts.
- Lift up to 80 pounds at times, occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds, and push and/or pull 50-pound loads at a time.
- Perform repetitive movements over long periods.
- Work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays may be required.
- Work in various types of weather.
