QUALIFICATIONS: Candidate should be a certified teacher in the state of Kentucky, hold an ELL endorsement or equivalent degree, or work to obtain said endorsement
JOB GOAL: To lead ELL students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.
Job Location: Half-Time District ELL Teacher and Half-Time Spanish Teacher at MCHS
General Summary:
The English Language Learner (ELL) teacher provides English language development instruction to children who are acquiring English as an additional language, working collaboratively with other instructional personnel, including a district-wide team of ELL teachers, to meet the individual needs of each child. Required activities include planning and delivering lessons, collaborating with classroom teachers and specialist, administering formative and summative assessments, completing documentation required for compliance with Title VI and EEOA, and attending ELL meetings and professional development offerings.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement ESL policies and regulations as established by KDE and McCreary County Board of Education
- Create and maintain an instructional climate that is conducive to learning in the ELL instructional setting.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary in evaluating individual learning styles and needs, which results in planning for an appropriate course of student for individual students using appropriate assessment instruments, surveys, and enrollment information.
- Plan and implement ELL instruction based on diagnosed needs of each individual student and the ELL Instructional Plan that combine both WIDA English Language Development Standards and the Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS).
- Annually evaluate student performance using the ACCESS for ELL. Provide ongoing assessment in the ELL program and provide teachers with in-put regarding student progress.
- Maintain individual student folders on students receiving ELL services (work samples, assessments and evaluations, ELL department forms)
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation and compliance with Title VI and EEOA.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
- Collaborate with teachers in classroom instruction for ELL students as needed. Assist classroom teachers in designing intervention strategies for ELL students.
- Attends and participates in faculty meetings.
- Provides for his own educational growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
- Any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal.
