Summary:
Performs a wide variety of tasks associated with industrial waste clean-up, site remediation, equipment and facility decontamination, and handling of hazardous and non-hazardous materials.

Performs a wide variety of tasks associated with industrial waste clean-up, site remediation, equipment and facility decontamination, and handling of hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
Duties and responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Operates a variety of vehicles and equipment including Class 1 thru 8 trucks, pickups, utility trucks, vans, vacuum trucks, roll-offs, tractor trailers. *
- Loads and secures necessary equipment and supplies.
- Pumps, transports liquid and semi-solid wastes for disposal.
- Performs tasks with vacuum truck services, bulk hauling services and containerized waste.
- Works in potentially elevated noise levels.
- Works in atmospheres and locations with the potential for exposure to various chemical and physical agents, some of which may be non-hazardous, hazardous or toxic.
- Works in confined spaces, including lifting in low clearance areas.
- Responsible for meeting and continue to meet all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, FMCSA, and OSHA, and customer required physical, drug and alcohol testing requirements.
- Reports for all schedule work shifts before scheduled starting time, and works until scheduled stopping time, as required.
- Completion of electronic and paper copies of daily documentation ex: JWO’s, manifest, time sheets, etc.
- Climbs ladders, into and out of trucks, tanks, and various containers and equipment.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Ability to engage in strenuous physical labor.
- Performs emergency response activities.
- Ensures proper use of equipment and immediately notifies supervisor of any issues with equipment.
- Maintains MEI’s core values.
- Attend MEI’s Saturday safety meetings once every other month.
- Quick and immediate response when on call every 5th week.
- Properly wear and use a variety of personal protective equipment (PPE) including respirators, levels A-D, skin, face, hand and foot protection.
- Assist with field sampling.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Reading comprehension skills, math and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to navigate Windows based computer applications.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
- Ability to write clearly in the completion of various documents.
- Initiative, self-starter with the ability and desire to learn.
- Able to complete an extensive training program in proper waste handling and sampling procedures, environmental laws and regulations, safety training, certification and testing, and tank cleaning; 40 Hour OSHA Training and Confined Space Entry and rescue, first aid & CPR, AED, etc.
- Planning and organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work with little or no direct supervision and an aptitude to complete assigned work.
- Knowledge of chemicals preferred.
Required Education, Training and Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalency.
- Construction field or related experience.
- Will be required to complete 40 Hour OSHA Training and other required training courses.
- Valid Driver’s License; Class A or B CDL with Tank and HAZMAT endorsements a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Position involves frequent heights and confined spaces, frequent strenuous physical exertion.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 100lbs and frequently lift 40-50lbs.
- Requires frequent walking, standing, climbing, sitting, talking, and listening.
- Requires frequent balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing/pulling, grasping, and carrying.
- Required to have clarity of vision.
- Frequent ability to properly wear and use respirator equipment and other forms of protective equipment (PPE), including occasional full encapsulation PPE suits which can elevate body temperature substantially during strenuous exertion.
