The targeted pay range is $63-65,000. This is a 35-hour a week position.
Reporting to the Associate Provost for Equity and Belonging, the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is responsible for providing visible leadership and direction for McDaniel College’s diverse student population through facilitation of programming and services that promote a supportive community. Basic responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Providing leadership, support and effective educational training to student organizations, student organization leaders, and various constituency groups, which are based in a deep understanding of enabling an inclusive environment, power, privilege, intersectionality, and social justice.
- Providing ongoing opportunities for students, student organizations, and members of the College community to participate in meaningful civil discourse about topics related to diversity and inclusion.
- Offering guidance, coaching and support helping students acquire skills necessary to create an inclusive environment for all to thrive within.
- Collaborating with diverse student groups and groups of students on events and programming that facilitate identity development, mentorship, personal growth, understanding of social identities, and action towards social change.
- Leading the development of Celebration Month steering committees and coordinating activities with student organizations that plan and execute these events. (Student organizations may include Black Student Union, Asian Community Coalition, Hispano-Latino Alliance, Allies, Jewish Student Union, Muslim Student Association, etc.).
- Overseeing the Edge Experience Program for first-year students including identifying Edge students with the Admissions Office, communicating with students about the program, recruiting students, and managing all aspects of the program.
- Supervising and managing student workers and effectively utilizing their gifts to benefit the work of the office.
- Managing the student programing and worker budget.
- Working with the Associate Provost for Equity and Belonging to accomplish strategic plan initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field such as higher education, social justice, education, public health, or social sciences required.
- Three to five years of related experience.
- A deep understanding, awareness, and sensitivity to the experiences of individuals who have been historically marginalized.
- Ability to facilitate effective and sensitive conversations among various constituent groups.
- Ability to develop and implement training and education for student body.
- Must be able to anticipate and plan for cyclical activities.
- Discretion and reliability in sensitive and confidential matters.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills including oral, written and presentation skills.
