Scope: Provide McDaniel students with hands-on learning experiences that will help them develop valuable and transferable skills.
The Office of Student Engagement's mission is to encourage students to engage in learning without limits by advancing opportunities that allow for growth and development within and beyond the classroom.
The Engagement Peer program in the Office of Student Engagement is designed to provide McDaniel students with hands-on learning experiences that will help them develop valuable and transferable skills. Engagement Peers will work on a variety of projects designed to foster a new appreciation and understanding of the multitude of resources available to students at McDaniel College.
Engagement Peer Learning Outcomes:
Engagement Peers in the Office of Student Engagement will be able to:
- Assist with creating and implementing new strategies on further engaging different entities on campus including student organizations, student organization advisors, specific student groups including but not limited to commuter students, first generation students, first year students, and the graduating senior class.
- Understand and interpret the role of the Office of Student Engagement in co-curricular learning at McDaniel College through meeting with student groups and individuals in involvement counseling sessions
- Practice critical thinking and problem-solving abilities through event, task, and work- management
- List, apply, and appraise transferable skills that can be used in other aspects of student and professional life
Specific duties:
Programming Engagement Peer
- Assist student organizations with CampusGroups, 25Live, and McDaniel and Student Engagement Policies & Procedures
- Assist student organizations with development, planning, and implementation of events and programs
- Assist student organization leaders with organization management and development as needed
- Serve as a liaison between the Office of Student Engagement and the campus/outside community
- Create, plan, and implement OSE programming (new and traditional)
- Provide on-site event support for OSE sponsored programs as requested
- Provide excellent customer service to all persons utilizing the services provided by the Office Student Engagement
- Attend all trainings planned by the Office of Student Engagement
- Attend regular 1:1 meeting with your direct supervisor
- Attend weekly staff meetings if schedule permits
- Assist the Operations and Programs Assistant with any office related task
- Assist OSE on leadership related programming throughout the academic year
Graphic Design Engagement Peer
- Experience using Adobe's Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
- Assist with marketing programs and events on campus
- Create and develop graphics and posters as needed for OSE
- Assist in branding the office and student organizations
- Assist with design, creation, and implementation of McDaniel Weekly newsletter as needed
- Assist student organizations seeking guidance on marketing and promotional strategies
- Serve as a liaison between the Office of Student Engagement and the campus/outside community
- Provide on-site event support for OSE sponsored programs as requested
- Provide excellent customer service to all persons utilizing the services provided by the Office Student Engagement
- Attend all trainings planned by the Office of Student Engagement
- Attend regular 1:1 meeting with your direct supervisor
- Attend weekly staff meetings if schedule permits
- Assist the Operations and Programs Assistant with any office related task
Social Media& Social/Print Media
- Utilize OSE's social media accounts to best promote the office, events, and programs in an accessible and professional manner
- Oversee and utilize OSE's websites to best promote the office, its services offered, and events and programs in an accessible and professional manner
- Coordinate and implement documentation of events and programs on all social media sites
- Compile McDaniel Weekly newsletter
- Create other online content in an effort to promote Student Engagement services (ex. Buzzfeed quizzes, etc.)
- Assist with development and implementation of marketing and promotional strategies on social media for student organizations seeking guidance
- Assist in branding the office and student organizations
- Work with the Graphic Design Engagement Peer to create and coordinate marketing tutorials for student organizations
- Serve as a liaison between the Office of Student Engagement and the campus/outside community
- Provide on-site event support for OSE sponsored programs as requested
- Provide excellent customer service to all persons utilizing the services provided by the Office Student Engagement
- Attend all trainings planned by the Office of Student Engagement
- Attend regular 1:1 meeting with your direct supervisor
- Attend weekly staff meetings if schedule permits
- Assist the Operations and Programs Assistant with any office related task
Kindness, Awareness, & Prevention Engagement Peer
- Create and implement awareness and prevention programming throughout the academic year in collaboration with Title IX, HR, Wellness, Dean of Students, and other offices and orgs that apply
- Plan and execute annual projects which currently include but are not limited to: Kindness Events (Every month), Sexish Week/Sexual Health Awareness Month (September)/World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10)/World Heart Day (September 29), National Depression Screening Day (October 8)/World Mental Health Day (October 10), World AIDS Day (December 1), National Stalking Awareness Month (January), Teen Violence Awareness Month (February), Eating Disorders Awareness and Screening Week (February 24-March 1), National Nutrition Month (March)/National Sleep Awareness Month (March), National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week (March 30-April 5), Sexual Awareness Month (April)
- Assist with creating and implementing new programs and initiatives for the Office of Student Engagement in conjunction with Community Engagement
- Serve as a liaison between the Office of Student Engagement and the campus/outside community
- Provide on-site event support for OSE sponsored programs as requested
- Provide excellent customer service to all persons utilizing the services provided by the Office Student Engagement
- Attend all trainings planned by the Office of Student Engagement
- Attend regular 1:1 meeting with your direct supervisor
- Attend weekly staff meetings if schedule permits
- Assist the Operations and Programs Assistant with any office related task
Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Current undergraduate student at McDaniel College
- Cumulative GPA of 2.3 or higher
- Demonstrated commitment to student involvement and leadership development
- Ability to serve as an ethical role model for peers
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Commitment to creating and supporting an inclusive campus community
- Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Have and maintain a good disciplinary record at McDaniel College (i.e. not on disciplinary or academic probation as of the start of or during the course of employment)
- Must be able to work a minimum of 6 hours per week
Terms of Employment:
- The employment period for an Engagement Peer is for one entire academic year (Fall and Spring Semesters) with the potential for Summer and Jan Term work as well.

All selected Engagement Peers must be available for a training held before the Fall Orientation as well as a meeting with the team at the end of the Spring semester.
