What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal Environmental Specialist position at McDermott International, Ltd?
The Principal Environmental Specialist will be responsible for the following aspects of HSES. This position is an individual contributor role. The role reports directly to the Sr Director of HSES and routinely interacts with the HSES Team, Senior Management and Regional Operations.
- Familiarization with all company and area specific environmental terms, requirements and deliverables.
- Identification of applicable regulatory requirements specific to the scope of work including monitoring compliance.
- Manage, monitor and advise all area matters related to Environmental
- Identify area environmental management representative
- Maintain companies' environmental policies and procedures
- Develop key strategies to maintain environmental compliance
- Ensuring site specific environmental plans, procedures and instructions are developed and implemented
- Identification and assignment of appropriate area environmental resources and development
- Assurance of project HAZID's and other risk reviews
- Assure preparation and maintenance of project Risk Register and Corrective Action Tracking
- Environmental Prequalification of project subcontractors and vendors as applicable
- Preparation of area environmental audit plans and conducting of audits
- Conducting reviews and audits of vessels, facilities or projects
- Assure preparation and maintenance of project environmental activity plans
- Preparation of environmental performance reports and submission of same to HSES Functional Lead
- Initiation of area environmental training needs analysis and coordination of implementation
- Provide SME support to company HSES training department to include development and delivery
- Developing and overseeing plans to meet area objectives, targets and goals aligned to the corporate strategy
- Leading or participating as SME in Incident Investigations and reporting
- Providing environmental input into look ahead plans and reports based on project schedule
- Providing environmental input to MOC's and Lessons Learned
- Review/Approve subcontractors and vendors for equipment and services
- Conduct regular site or facility reviews
- Attend and provide input to forums such as kick off meetings, constructability reviews, readiness reviews, etc.
- Other duties connected with the HSES function, as directed by Director/Senior Director HSES
- Develop master service agreements with applicable service providers.
- Track permit requirements for sites to ensure timely submissions.
- Other expectations:
- Ability to work as a team member as well as act as team leader.
- Have wide experience with technical activities, including on and offshore operations.
- Maintain key competencies associated with the Environmental function
- Communication and presentation skills, both written and spoken.
- Be conversant with local and international Environmental laws, codes, regulations and norms.
- Assist in the development and delivery of HSE training programs and provide in-field coaching to help further educate workforce.
- 10 years within the Energy Industry through all phases of EPCI project delivery
- Minimum Diploma OHS.
- Certificate IV Training and Assessment.
- 10 years HSE experience on construction projects (greenfield and brownfield experience favorable)
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant statutory regulations.
- Training in HSE practices including:
- Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Risk Control,
- HSE induction/education practices,
- Working at height and confined space entry,
- Experience in completing incident investigation and reporting.
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
