We are seeking a Nursery Production Manager to oversee the care, health, and growth of plants and trees in our nursery. This role focuses on implementing best practices in horticultural science to ensure optimal plant production, health, and sustainability. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in plant cultivation, pest and disease management, and nursery operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Plant Care & Production
- Oversee all aspects of plant and tree cultivation, including potting, transplanting, watering, fertilization, and pruning.
- Monitor plant health and diagnose issues related to pests, diseases, and environmental stressors.
- Implement effective pest and disease management strategies using integrated pest management (IPM) techniques.
- Maintain proper irrigation schedules and soil nutrition to optimize plant growth.
Horticultural Science & Best Practices
- Apply knowledge of plant biology, soil science, and climate conditions to improve production outcomes.
- Research and implement new techniques to enhance plant quality, sustainability, and efficiency.
- Maintain detailed records of plant growth cycles, treatments, and environmental conditions.
Operational Responsibilities
- Ensure the nursery environment is well-maintained, organized, and conducive to healthy plant growth.
- Maintain and calibrate irrigation systems, greenhouse equipment, and other necessary tools.
- Monitor inventory levels of soil, fertilizers, pesticides, and other materials, coordinating restocking as needed.
Compliance & Sustainability
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations related to plant care, pesticide use, and environmental standards.
- Implement sustainable nursery practices to reduce waste and conserve resources.
- Ensure all work follows industry safety standards and best practices.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree or certification in Horticulture, Plant Science, Agronomy, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong knowledge of plant propagation, soil management, pest control, and irrigation systems.
- Experience working in a nursery, greenhouse, or agricultural setting.
- Ability to diagnose plant health issues and apply effective solutions.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Comfortable working independently and maintaining detailed records.
Physical & Work Requirements:
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly.
- Stand, walk, bend, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
