McDonogh School's Upper School seeks a passionate and innovative Director of Upper School Learning Support/Learning Specialist to join our inclusive community. Essential Functions
- Student Support & Development
- Design and implement individualized and small-group academic support programs that empower students to reach their full potential
- Guide students in developing essential academic skills, including critical reading, analytical writing, time management, and effective study strategies
- Create and maintain comprehensive Student Learning Plans that reflect each student's unique learning profile
- Monitor student progress and adapt support strategies to ensure continued growth
- Facilitate student self-advocacy and independence in their learning journey
- Faculty Collaboration & Leadership
- Partner with classroom teachers to implement effective differentiation strategies and accommodations
- Provide professional development opportunities to enhance faculty understanding of diverse learning needs
- Participate in weekly student advocacy meetings to ensure comprehensive support
- Maintain strong relationships with Learning Specialists across all divisions to ensure program continuity
- Serve as a resource for faculty in developing inclusive teaching practices
- Program Management & Professional Excellence
- Oversee learning support services, including coordination with external providers
- Manage testing accommodations for College Board and ACT examinations
- Maintain confidential student records and provide regular program updates to school leadership
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in learning support
- Contribute to the broader school community through participation in school initiatives
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in education, special education, or related field required. Master's degree in education, special education, psychology, or related field preferred.
Additional Experience
- Background in curriculum development and differentiated instruction, preferred
- Demonstrated expertise in learning differences and evidence-based support strategies, required
- Experience working within independent school settings, preferred
- Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience working with high school students with diverse learning profiles
- Must have proficiency with learning management systems and assistive technology
- Preferred candidates will have raining in current educational technology and learning tools
- Working knowledge of HRIS/HRMS software, experience with Paycom preferred

Working Conditions
Evening and weekend hours may be required from time to time. Lifting and carrying of equipment is not typical but may be required on rare occasions. Lifting up to 25 pounds. Other working conditions include climbing stairs, walking around campus, sitting, standing, and significant computer use including extensive close use of a computer monitor. Reaching, grasping.
