Description
McDonogh School, a PK-12 institution serving 1,400 students from the greater Baltimore region, seeks an enthusiastic and dedicated full-time Spanish teacher who will work with lower school children (second, third, and fourth grade) in our program. The ideal candidate will have a deep love of working with children in their formative years.
Essential Functions
- Create a classroom atmosphere that promotes joyful learning and an inclusive, welcoming, purposeful school tone and culture
- Provide instruction in Spanish classes that prioritizes the use of the target language, encouraging students to have a foundation for rich language learning and the development of cultural and global competence
- Collaborate with the PK-1st Spanish teacher to continue to develop a scaffolded curriculum that builds upon prior knowledge using the ACTFL World-Readiness Standards
- Provide dynamic and experiential instruction for students that will encourage eagerness to advance to more complex language learning in Middle School and beyond
- Collaborate with academic leaders on the growing Global Engagement Program to develop classroom lessons and experiential experiences that prepare children for life in a diverse global world
- Provide instruction to develop the capacity for students to engage others' perspectives, collaborate, think reasonably, and reason critically
- Provide a learning environment that instills the dispositions and habits of mind that will support our learners to thrive in an ever-increasing interconnected world
- Express a clear interest in becoming an active member of the McDonogh community
- Communicate regularly and effectively with parents proactively and professionally through a classroom website, e-mail, phone calls, in-person conversations, bi-annual progress reports, etc.
- Perform non-teaching duties in order to support and assist students throughout the day
- Actively participate in professional development in order to remain current with best practices in elementary education and language instruction
- Compensation will be offered in the range of $55,000- $75,000. Individual offers will be specific, and based on education, experience, and benchmarking parameters.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in Spanish or Early Childhood Education and demonstrate fluency in the Spanish language. (master's degree preferred).
Additional Experience
- Must have a demonstrable record of collaborative curriculum development and delivery
- Must have an understanding of Google Suite tools (docs, sheets, forms etc.), major LMS platforms, and other emerging technologies
- Must have at least 3 years of experience as a lead teacher in early childhood education
- Working knowledge of best practices in early education as well as language acquisition, including but not limited to Comprehensible Input

Working Conditions
Evening and weekend hours may be required from time to time. Lifting and carrying of equipment is not typical, but may be required on rare occasions. Lifting up to 25 pounds. Other working conditions include climbing stairs, walking around campus, sitting, standing, and significant computer use including extensive close use of a computer monitor. Reaching, grasping.
Salary : $55,000 - $75,000
