Behavior Support Assistant Job Description
Nature of Work
- Behavior Support Assistants will be a resource for equitable opportunities for students with challenging behaviors.
- Applicant would be required to obtain bus certification and license to drive a morning or evening bus route. This is in addition to the 37.5 hours for Behavior Support Assistant and would be paid at overtime rate for 40 hours or more per week.
Qualifications :
Behavior Support Assistant :
High School Diploma
Possession of an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position
Meets qualifications required by holding an Associate's Degree, or Completion of 48 semester hours of college credits
Attend training from Crisis Prevention Institute
Bus Driver : As a condition of employment with MCS, applicant would be required to obtain bus certification and license to drive a morning or evening bus route, when needed. This is in addition to the 37.5 hours for Behavior Support Assistant duties and would be paid at overtime rate for 40 hours or more per week.
Essential Job Functions :
Provide direct support to staff by introducing and modeling research / evidence based interventionsProvide direct support to students by teaching and modeling research / evidence based interventions and social skills curriculum, providing extended classroom support and follow up for studentsCoordinate with Behavior Specialists / Liaisons and school staff to implement behavior curriculum, develop effective intervention plans and crisis / safety plansCarries out student supervisory duties in a prompt and responsible manner to ensure a safe and healthful environmentGeneral Classroom AssistanceExhibits positive behavior toward children, parents, staff and administratorsRepresents the needs of school and children to parents and the community in a positive mannerConducts self as a positive role model in the school and communityPerforms other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisorDrive a school bus route, when needed.Behavior Support Assistant will maintain a notebook that will be monitored by the Behavior Specialists / Liaisons. It will contain the following :
Weekly behavior logs detailing services and observationsBehavior Intervention Plans (BIP's) with progress notesSocial Skills lesson plansIncident reports and office referralsLog of communication with school staff, family, and outside agenciesPhysical and Cognitive Requirements :
Light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.The job may occasionally require running short distances or standing, sitting or kneeling for long periods.Must be able to :
