Position Summary
McDowell Hetherington LLP is seeking candidates for a Legal Assistant position for its Houston, TX office. This full-time position is an in-person role in the Houston office of McDowell Hetherington. The successful candidate must possess the following qualifications:
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- At least three (3) years of experience in a litigation or legal environment;
- Stable tenure with previous employers;
- Advanced Microsoft Office and Teams skills;
- Substantial experience working with electronic court filings in both state and federal courts;
- Experience managing and organizing large files both manually and electronically;
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills;
- Experience with Netdocs or a similar document management system;
- Experience with LMS or a similar timekeeping system.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Prepare and format legal and/or administrative correspondence and documents for assigned attorneys;
- Manage and maintain both physical and electronic case files for assigned attorneys, including saving incoming documents to document management system;
- Enter billable time into LMS as requested by assigned attorneys;
- Book travel arrangements for assigned attorneys;
- Arrange depositions, mediations, or other proceedings on behalf of assigned attorneys;
- Communicate with Court, opposing counsel, and clients as needed;
- Calendar all relevant dates for all attorneys assigned to matters on which Legal Assistant is assisting;
- Responsible for filing legal documents electronically or manually as required;
- Ensure that assigned attorneys receive all documents, correspondence, alerts, or any other information pertaining to their assigned cases as soon as possible upon receipt;
- Complete Check Requests and Reimbursement Forms for assigned attorneys as needed; and
- Assist with any administrative support/functions assigned attorneys may be undertaking for special projects and/or events.
- Prepare Table of Contents and Table of Authorities;
- Maintain attorney state and ECF court logins;
- Print and circulate attorney prebills.
