QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum Licensed Practical Nurse license required.
2. Maintain confidentiality as required under HIPAA and FERPA regulations.
3. Health care experience required.
4. Work under the direct supervision of Certified School Nurse.
5. Demonstrate sensitivity to the health needs of students of various age and ability levels, diverse cultures, and socio- economic backgrounds.
6. Ability to relate to and communicate with students, parents, and staff.
7. Such alternative to the above as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Certified School Nurse, Building Principal, Director of Student Services, Superintendent.
JOB GOAL: To provide ongoing routine and emergent medical support to the students and staff of Millcreek Township School District.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Respond to the emergent needs of students who present symptoms of health-related problems.
- Provide medical first aid services in the absence of the Certified School Nurse in accordance with District policy and 28 PA Code 23.79 and the first aid standing orders and guidelines of the school district.
- Contact Certified School Nurse and advise of symptoms of student health-related problems.
- Contact parents or guardian of child with symptoms of school health-related problem per Certified School Nurse instruction.
- Initiate phone contact with parents and guardians of children who are absent from school for health-related reasons per Certified School Nurse instruction.
- Contact parents or guardians of students for follow-up as requested by Certified School Nurse.
- Assist Certified School Nurse in record keeping for all students, including mandated height and weight screening.
- Assist Certified School Nurse in review and maintenance of immunization data.
- Schedule students for various screening procedures and dental examinations as directed by Certified School Nurse.
- Contact other school districts regarding transfer of student’s health records per Certified School Nurse instruction.
- Assist Certified School Nurse in filling out school accident reports.
- Distribute medication to students pursuant to District Policy 210.
- Perform mandated screenings under the direction of the school nurse.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or their designee.
