Construction Inspector

Location: On-site at various locations around greater Richmond, VA metro area

About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Transportation Construction Inspector to join our growing Transportation and Infrastructure division. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing and inspecting various highway and/or bridge construction projects across the Richmond Metro Area or in Eastern Virginia, ensuring that all work is completed in accordance with established standards, specifications, and regulations. Work schedule varies according to job assignments and/or contractors’ schedule, to include night work, weekends, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct regular on-site inspections of highway and/or bridge construction projects and inspect related work materials to ensure compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and state regulations.
• Monitor and document the progress of construction activities, identifying any deviations from the planned schedule or specifications.
• Coordinate with project team members, engineers, and contractors to address and resolve any issues that arise during construction.
• Review and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and specifications to ensure accurate implementation on-site.
• Prepare detailed reports on inspection findings, including recommendations for corrective actions when necessary, and daily records of the numbers and classifications of workers employed by contractors.
• Maintain daily records covering running totals of quantities and costs while construction is in progress.
• Prepare and forward weekly quantity summaries for items associated with the contract.
• Assist in the development and implementation of quality control procedures.
• Review traffic protection procedures.
• Attend meetings and conferences as needed.

Qualifications:

• Required
  • 3-5 years of experience in construction inspection, with a focus on transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and legal regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and project/construction management software (i.e. Site Manager)
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to various project sites within Richmond, VA Metro Area.

• Preferred

• • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Experience in a broad range of road and bridge construction inspection activities with a DOT or a DOT consultant inspection firm.

• Experience overseeing the work of others.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is preferred but not required.
• Certifications/Courses:
  • NICET I or NICET II certification in transportation/highway and bridge construction.
  • Asphalt Field Level I or II
  • American Concrete Institute (ACI) Concrete Field Level I (CCWA) OR WACEL Concrete I Certification

    • DEQ: Inspector for Storm Water Management (SWM IN)
    • Radiation Safety USDOT HAZMAT Certification (Nuclear Gauge)
    • Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control Safety
    • Soils & Aggregate Compaction
    • CPR with AED, Standard First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogens (BBP) Combined Course
    • Guard Rail Installer Training (GRIT)
    • Fall Protection and Confined Space Training
