Position Summary:
The Tool Crib Technician is responsible for ensuring that cutting tools, fixtures, job boxes, and other essential equipment are readily available and in good working condition for the machine shop teams. This role involves tracking tooling usage and maintaining an organized storage system, as well as preparing requisitions for new or replacement items to ensure adequate stock levels. By providing reliable access to the necessary tools and supplies, the Tool Crib Technician supports the machine shop’s ability to deliver high-quality work, meet production schedules, and maintain excellent customer service.
Primary duties, tasks and responsibilities:
- Collaborate with supervisors and production planning to set up and stage jobs.
- Create and maintain job boxes with all required tooling, documentation, and fixtures.
- Accurately track tooling inventory and usage within an MRP system.
- Initiate purchase requisitions for consumable and replacement tooling based on MRP values and supervisor requests.
- Monitor tooling availability and anticipate needs to prevent production delays.
- Assist in daily coordination between production planning and production.
- Investigate and recommend new tooling solutions to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Follow Quality Assurance procedures and interpret technical drawings and job specifications.
- Support machinists by locating and staging materials and supplies.
- Conduct daily cycle counts, maintain accurate MRP inventory records, and reconcile discrepancies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient tool crib for quick access to tools and equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support overall production flow.
- Other duties and projects assigned by machine shop team.
Skills & Requirements:
- Experience working with ERP systems in a manufacturing or machining environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
- Mechanical aptitude and understanding of machining and tooling processes.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to adapt to internal systems.
- Self-driven, team-oriented, and dependable with a service-oriented mindset.
Preferred Experience:
- 2–4 years’ experience in machining or manufacturing support roles.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Familiarity with job setup procedures in a machine shop setting.
- Prior hands-on experience using ERP systems such as Syteline, Epicor, or similar.
- A willingness to continuously learn by taking on new skills and constantly wanting to improve skills and abilities.
Physical Requirements
In this position, you must be able to sit, stand and lift up to 20 lbs.
