The General Manager, Workers Compensation is responsible for overseeing and managing the workers' compensation program for the company, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and implementing strategies to reduce claims and costs. This role requires expertise in claims management, risk mitigation, employee safety, and coordination with insurance carriers, third-party administrators (TPAs), and legal teams.

- Oversee the end-to-end management of workers' compensation claims, ensuring timely reporting, investigation, and resolution.
- Work closely with TPAs, insurers, and legal teams to ensure effective claims handling and cost containment.
- Review claim reserves and settlement recommendations, advocating for the company's best interests.
- Develop return-to-work programs to minimize lost time and promote employee recovery.
- Maintain detailed documentation of all work-related incidents, injuries, and illnesses.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state workers' compensation laws, OSHA regulations, and industry-specific safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records and reports to meet regulatory and internal audit requirements.
- Conduct periodic reviews and audits of claims to identify trends, gaps, and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with Safety, HR, and Operations teams to develop and implement injury prevention programs.
- Analyze claims data to identify trends and recommend proactive risk management strategies.
- Provide training to managers and employees on workers' compensation policies, injury prevention, and best practices.
- Act as the primary liaison between injured employees, managers, TPAs, insurers, and legal counsel.
- Support HR and Operations teams with guidance on workers' compensation policies and procedures.
- Manage relationships with medical providers and rehabilitation specialists to ensure appropriate care for injured employees.
- Manage cases and be the point of contact for injured team members who are out of work for over 90 days.
- Manage and oversee the Return-to-Work Specialists and their daily tasks and responsibilities
- Monitor workers' compensation costs and budget, implementing cost-saving initiatives where possible.
- Prepare reports on claims status, financial impact, and key performance indicators for senior leadership.
- Ensure the TPA's service-level agreements (SLAs) are met, escalating issues when necessary.
- Other Duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Occupational Health, Business Administration, HR, or a related field, or an additional two years of experience in lieu of a degree.
- Seven years of experience in workers' compensation claims management, preferably in the ground handling, aviation, logistics, or transportation industries with 2 years in leadership role and supervisory experience.
- Experience managing self-insured and insured workers' compensation programs.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and state-specific workers' compensation laws.
- Strong knowledge of workers' compensation laws, claim handling processes, and return-to-work programs.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret claims data and identify cost-reduction opportunities.
- Effective communication and negotiation skills to work with injured employees, internal stakeholders, insurance carriers, and legal teams.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in claims management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to multi-task, remain organized, and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced, highly fluid environment
- Related certifications or additional education a plus.
- Headquarters On-Site position
- Flexibility to travel to airport locations required (up to 20%)
