What are the responsibilities and job description for the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) position at McGonigle Ambulance Service?
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Has completed an approved EMT course, and is certified Nationally or by the State of Pennsylvania.
- Possess a valid Driver’s License
- Current Healthcare Provider CPR Certification
- Valid Emergency Vehicle Operation Course Certificate (EVOC)
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Must submit to driver’s license verification obtained from the Department of Transportation.
- Must submit to a Criminal Background Information Report
- Must submit to a state and federal Child Abuse History Information Report and FBI Fingerprinting
- Must submit to an Office of Inspector General Information Report
- Must submit to a controlled substance screening and a physical examination by a designated physician and/or other medical practitioner
- Must maintain credentials and certifications as required by the state of Pennsylvania*
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Must read and write legibly and understand the English language
- Must communicate with patients, families, facility staff, medical command physicians and co-workers in a courteous manner
- Must stay calm and rational in stressful and emergency situations
- Maintain vehicle readiness and report any damage and/or deficiencies
- Must keep vehicle clean and fueled
- Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in all types of weather
- The work is not only physically strenuous, but also stressful, involving life or death situations and suffering patients
- Will be required to do considerable bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling and heavy lifting
- Must be able to lift and carry heavy loads
- Must have good eyesight (corrective lenses may be used) with accurate color vision
- Must demonstrate competence in the administration of basic life support, and the ability to carry out the approved PA State BLS protocols regarding the pre-hospital treatment of the ill or injured patient
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responds to emergency and non-emergency medical and transport requests without delay
- Renders basic medical assistance to the seriously ill or injured patients
- Prepares or assists in the preparation of patients for transport, ensuring compliance with emergency transport regulations, protocol and procedure
- Completes and transfers patient care information and records
- Performs any other related duties as assigned or required
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $48,500.00 - $52,500.00 per year
