JOB TITLE: WHEELCHAIR VAN DRIVER
DEPARTMENT: OPERATIONS
SHIFT: PART TIME - Daylight Operations
The Paratransit Driver is responsible for the safe transportation of ambulatory and wheelchair bound patients.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ø Possess a valid Driver’s License
Ø Must be familiar with the Mercer County area and the medical facilities in and around Mercer County
Ø Current Healthcare Provider CPR certification
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Ø Must submit to driver’s license verification obtained from the Department of Transportation
Ø Must submit to a Criminal Background Information Report
Ø Must submit to a state and federal Child Abuse History Information Report and FBI fingerprinting
Ø Must submit to an Office of Inspector General Information Report
Ø Must submit to a controlled substance screening and a physical examination by McGonigle Ambulance’s designated physician and/or other medical practitioner
Ø Must attend annual trainings as scheduled
Ø Must maintain credentials and certifications as required by the state of Pennsylvania and by McGonigle Ambulance
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Ø Must read and write legibly and understand the English language
Ø Must understand and follow verbal commands and company policies
Ø Must communicate with patients, families, facility staff, and co-workers in a courteous manner
Ø Must demonstrate competence in the operation of a wheelchair as well as the transfer of a patient to and from a wheelchair and stretcher
Ø Must demonstrate competence in the operation of the wheelchair van lift system
Ø Maintain vehicle readiness and report any damage and/or deficiencies
Ø Must keep vehicle clean and fueled
Ø Must improvise and reset priorities in keeping with the rapidly changing needs of a patient’s care
Ø Must demonstrate the ability to drive in a safe and responsible manner
Ø Must be able to work indoors an outdoors in all types of weather
Ø Will be required to do considerable bending, pushing, and pulling
Ø Must be able to push and pull wheelchairs with patients loaded
Ø Will be required to sit for long periods of time
Ø Must have good eyesight (corrective lenses may be used) with accurate color vision
Ø Performs any other related duties as assigned or required
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ø Receives patient transport information and translates information correctly
Ø Responds to requests without delay
Ø Shall complete patient transport according to the guidelines set by McGonigle Ambulance
Ø Follows established McGonigle Ambulance policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental and infection control standards
Ø Completes and transfers patient care information and records
Ø Must return to ready status after completion of a trip promptly and without delay
Ø Performs any other related duties as assigned or required

- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
