Come and work for a great organization working in the Planning and Development office as a full time Planning Manager/Zoning Enforcement Officer. The position is responsible for interpreting and enforcing the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), including the processing of zoning petitions, subdivision applications, and site plan reviews. This position is further responsible for short- and long-range planning.
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Director, Planning & Development, the Planning Manager/Zoning Enforcement Officer oversees the day to day operation of the Planning Division of the Planning & Development Department to ensure the efficient and accurate processing and review of applications, enforcement of ordinances, maintenance of records, and courteous customer service.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Receives and reviews complaints of potential UDO violations, conducts site inspections, and initiates legal action as necessary.
- Provides oral and written interpretations of the County’s adopted Unified Development Ordinance.
- Provides assistance to property owners and applicants.
- Supervises Planning Division staff by providing work assignments, monitoring and evaluating performance, providing training and staff development, and making recommendations regarding the hiring, discipline, and termination of employees.
- Manages and performs zoning petition and subdivision application intake and review.
- Prepares and reviews short- and long-range planning studies and manages special projects requiring a high level of policy development or ordinance interpretation.
- Gives testimony or advice based on technical and professional knowledge of planning, land use, zoning, mapping, and legal issues during zoning hearings, County Board committee, and County Board meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) from an accredited college or university with a major in urban and regional planning, public administration, public policy, geography, or a related field.
Experience:
- Five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in planning or zoning administration, including work on short or long- range plans and conducting public hearings; or
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and skill to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Supervisory experience
Licenses and Certifications:
- Membership in the American Institute of Certified Planners (preferred).
- Driver’s License
Must be able to successfully pass a background screening.
