What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intake Officer position at McKean County?
POSITION PURPOSE:
To process cases of criminally charged juveniles through the court system from intake to disposition, as well as process intake for criminally charged adults. To provide support for the Public Defender and handle general office duties.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential functions of the position include but are not limited to the following:
1. Perform intake process for adults and juveniles who have been criminally charged, determining income eligibility by telephone or in person, and then scheduling and conducting personal history interviews.
2. Continue processing cases for juveniles through disposition, including conferring with the District Attorney, Juvenile Probation or outside agencies as appropriate and attendance at criminal conferences and Court hearings to assist attorneys.
3. Word process legal documents (petitions, motions, briefs), take dictation and compose drafts of communications for review by the Public Defender.
4. Respond to questions from clients who are processing through the system, as well as concerns from the general public.
5. Maintain and order general office supplies, materials and equipment for the department.
6. Track office expenditures for the department budget.
7. Track case timelines to ensure meeting weekly deadlines for Court hearings and conferences.
8. Track minimum sentences and file appropriate petitions.
9. Answer telephone calls, maintain filing, and distribute the daily mail.
10. Assist with such other duties as may be assigned for the successful operation of the department.
INTERFACE:
Internal: Must positively interface with the department staff, District Attorney, Prothonotary, and Adult Probation
External: Must maintain a positive interface with clients/family members, counselors, treatment facilities
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School diploma required
Experience: 2 years general office experience
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

2. Flexibility and able to meet tight deadlines.
3. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
4. Detail orientation.
5. Computer literate and ability to word process with speed and accuracy.
6. Ability to take dictation.
7. Vision and hearing correctible to within the normal ranges.
