POSITION TITLE: Swim Instructor
REPORTS TO: Aquatics Manager
CLASSIFICATION: Part Time, Hourly

Facility Information 
McKendree MetroRecPlex is a premiere membership based recreation facility in O’Fallon IL.  The complex serves as an athletic conditioning and training center for the McKendree University Water Polo, Diving, Swimming and Ice Hockey teams.  The youth athletic organization Southern Illinois Ice Hawks & MetroRecPlex SeaHawks call the complex home.  Several high school teams also utilize the facility for games & practices both on the ice & in the pool.  The facility includes a comprehensive workout facility including an elevated walking track, a variety of cardio equipment, a complete weight room, half court basketball court as well as fitness classrooms for all types of workout classes.   The McKendree MetroRecPlex also offers many programs like PlexSkate, PlexSwim, PLEX Kids After School/Summer Camp, figure skating & hockey coaching and personal training.

General Position Description

Responsible for planning, coordinating and teaching learn-to-swim and water safety courses.Current group lessons are scheduled for Thursday evenings. Privates are scheduled based on the instructor availability. Hands on instructor training available as well as certifications.

Accountabilities

• Be familiar with American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim levels, other Red Cross water safety courses and know how to use course materials effectively.
• Adapt your teaching approaches to the age, experience and ability of participants, so they can meet course objectives.
• Provide for the health and safety of participants, including ensuring that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards, and that materials and equipment are safe.
• Cover all material required in a level.
• Communicate regularly with participants and their parents, as appropriate, to ensure they are aware of progress
• Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies in accordance with facility emergency action plans
• Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations
• Complete records and reports
• Participate in regular in-service training sessions
• Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education and Special Requirements
(Current certification in the following is preferred- on site training & certifications available)

• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
• Other certifications required by local or state laws
• American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid
• American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer
• Must commit to teaching group swim lessons evenings to teach privates

Wage Range & Benefits
