Position Summary and Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for hiring, training, and supervising the professional Resident Directors and Area Coordinators.
- Maintains department budget and prepares budget requests.
- Serve as a rotating on-call professional for residence life crisis situations.
- Serves as an advisor to student groups as assigned.
- Serves as the designated Judicial Officer; conducts informal and formal hearings, confers sanctions upon students found in violation of school policies, maintains records of incidents involving students.
- In conjunction with the ADSL create the yearly developmental calendar and ensure alignment with the university’s mission.
- Ensure that staff programming aligns with key state and federal guidelines.
- Assists in planning and implementation of social and educational programming sponsored by the Office of Student Affairs, or by individual living units within the residence life program.
- Serves on the Student of Concern Committee.
- Prepare and coordinate the RA and students conduct curriculum and training.
- Provide assessment and reporting for student programs and effectiveness of conduct sanctions.
- Ensure compliance with fire safety, building codes, and housing policies.
- Maintain the Code of Conduct and publish yearly updated document by August 1st.
- Works to create and maintain a climate that fosters student learning, engagement, and development while enhancing a strong sense of community.
- Serve on college committees as appointed.
- Other duties as needed or assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in higher education, student development, or related field.
- Four years of professional post-baccalaureate experience in student conduct and emergencies and crisis response.
- Encompass strong organizational, interpersonal, writing and speaking skills, and the ability to communicate effectively within a university environment are required.
- The ability to work independently in a time-sensitive environment is required.
- Demonstrated ability to oversee and manage caseload in a manner that ensures the prompt, effective, and equitable conclusion of confidential matters is required.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, faculty and staff.
- Must be willing to assume additional responsibilities within the department as needed.
- Must demonstrate willingness to role model acceptance and advocacy of uniqueness by creating an environment committed to all students.
- Knowledge of student learning and development.
- Experience in hiring and training professional and student staff.
- Experience in supervision of professional and student staff.
- Experience working with student organization advising.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.
- Experience with Ellucian and Maxient systems.
- Master’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in higher education, student development, or related field.
