What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Success Mentor position at McKendree University?
McKendree University, located in Lebanon, IL, invites applicants for the position of Student Success Mentor. The Student Success Mentor assists with academic advising, student mentoring and retention initiatives. This is an on-campus, full-time position and is eligible for a competitive compensation and benefits package.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities :
- Partner with other campus service areas that directly impact the institution’s ability to improve student success.
- Mentor students who have been identified through the early alert program, conditionally admitted program and academic recovery program.
- Aid students in the development of recovery plans, preventative plans and overall improved academic and social success.
- Collaborate with the Writing Center, Office of Student Development and Leadership, Office of Career Services, and Multicultural Affairs Office.
- Target particular populations for review and evaluation, i.e. transfer, commuter, minority, international, undeclared, athletes, first-generation, and conditionally admitted.
- Advise current students on course selection, major selection and schedule changes throughout the year and advise incoming students at all First Year Introduction sessions.
- Assist with general student affairs functions.
- Other duties as assigned.

Office environment; 40 hours per week; with a varied schedule to accommodate the hours for the center which are 8 : 00am-6 : 00pm, Monday through Thursday and 8 : 00am-5 : 00pm on Friday, some evening and weekend work required. Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time, doing computer work as required. Walking across campus for workshops and other special events is necessary, carrying materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
FLSA Category : Non-Exempt
Salary Range : $15.50 - $16.00 / Hourly
Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions and department budget.
