What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fall 2025 Preconstruction Co-op position at McKenney's, Inc.?
McKenney's Inc., voted one of Atlanta and Charlotte's BEST PLACES TO WORK, is seeking Engineering and Construction Management Majors who are interested in the construction industry. As an industry leading mechanical contractor, McKenney’s has specialized in HVAC and Plumbing construction throughout the greater Atlanta area for over 70 years. At McKenney’s our co-ops are an integral part of the success for our projects and the company, and we rely on and encourage their fresh ideas.
As a co-op, you will be part of the team from day one and given training and tasks that are important and impactful to our future projects' success. McKenney's has a long history of success in hiring Co-ops and supporting their growth into well rounded leaders. Much of our Executive Leadership team, Operations Managers, and senior leaders started in the Co-op program.
The responsibilities and job skills learned are primarily dependent upon the individual Co-op's drive, determination, and ability to learn and function on a multi-disciplinary project team. A typical day can range from processing project documents, analyzing the drawings of some of the biggest projects coming to Atlanta, notifying, and coordinating with internal and external partners, and assisting our sheet metal and piping estimators with material and labor take offs. A successful Co-op will learn how to estimate projects and scopes of work, work directly with vendors and subcontractors, and support our operations groups both during the estimating phases and after job turnover. Experienced, successful Co-ops will have the opportunity to lead the entire bid process for a multi-million-dollar project, from the beginning stages to the final proposal, under the guidance a Sales Engineer. Our next job could be on your campus!
