McKinnon & Harris, Inc. was founded in 1991 to handcraft without compromising our original designs of furniture for estate, garden, and yacht. Our high performance aluminum furniture is engineered, designed, and meticulously built for the most demanding exterior environments. We handcraft everything at our company workshop located in the historic Scott’s Addition neighborhood of Richmond, Virginia. In this era of mass production, we are committed to crafting furniture of exacting standards and timeless design.

Our products require great care in handling and an exacting attention to detail. We are seeking new craftspeople for our fabrication, upholstery, and finishing areas. Our ideal candidate has experience in a manufacturing environment or the construction trade or an equivalent education/training. Candidates must have a mechanical aptitude and good math skills. This position is a five day work week with occasional overtime required.

Description

Prep aluminium surfaces by cleaning, sanding, and masking them, then applying a dry powder coating using a spray gun, followed by curing the coating in an oven to create a durable finish, while performing quality checks throughout the process to ensure the final product meets specifications; key responsibilities may include furniture preparation, powder application, oven operation, and quality inspection. 

Key responsibilities of a powder coater may include:

• Surface preparation:
  Cleaning, sanding, and masking metal parts to ensure proper powder adhesion. Rinse, drain, or wipe coated workpieces to remove excess coating material or to facilitate setting of finish coats on workpieces.
• Powder application:
  Operating a powder coating spray gun to evenly apply powder coating to prepared surfaces. 
• Color selection:
  Selecting the correct powder color according to customer specifications. 
• Loading and unloading:
  Loading parts onto racks or fixtures for powder coating and unloading them after curing. Place coated workpieces in ovens or dryers for specified times to dry or harden finishes.
• Quality inspection:
  Performing visual checks to identify any defects in the powder coating, such as runs, sags, or inconsistencies. 
• Maintenance:
  Cleaning and maintaining powder coating equipment, including spray guns, booths, filters and ovens

Environment

• Works in a production facility without air conditioning, with production noises, and dust. 
• May work, when necessary, beyond normal working hours, on weekends, and in other positions.
• Wears required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety shoes and glasses, and optional PPE such as hearing, and breathing protection depending on tasks being performed.
• Maintains excellent attendance to ensure responsibilities are achieved. Five day work week with occasional overtime required.
