What are the responsibilities and job description for the Radiation Therapist I, II, or III position at McLaren Northern Michigan?
Under general supervision, the radiation therapist safely and correctly operates radiation producing equipment to simulate patients for treatment and administer radiation therapy treatments, as prescribed by the radiation oncologist.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administers radiation treatments as prescribed by the radiation oncologist.
- Maintains EMR and other documentation related to treatment simulation and delivery
- Assists in simulation procedures, as ordered by the radiation oncologist, for the purpose of treatment planning.
- With supervision, fabricates treatment immobilization devices and treatment aids, as ordered by the radiation oncologist, for the purpose of treatment planning.
- Participates in imaging and alignment procedures for radiation treatment delivery, as directed by the radiation oncologist.
- Schedules simulation and treatment appointments; facilitates communication of scheduling with patient and staff.
- Captures and verifies / corrects all charges for services rendered.
- Participates in and documents patient education.
- Follows radiation safety protection guidance and ALARA principles for patients and personnel.
- Utilizes incident reporting and learning system for reporting near misses, variances, and unsafe conditions.
- Performs machine, equipment, and treatment plan quality assurance.
- Participates in department quality assurance and continuous quality improvement programs for radiation therapists.
- Follows department and organization policies and procedures.
