MITIGATION REMOTE SUPPORT POSITION
This document outlines the duties and responsibilities of the Marine Resource Specialist support position with a specific focus on supporting the mitigation measures team lead for Navy at-sea compliance programs. The incumbent will assist with marine species impact analyses and advise on appropriate mitigation measures to help maintain the Navy's ability to train and test at-sea while balancing the Navy's environmental compliance responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent will :
- Review text for environmental compliance documents in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Executive Order 12114, Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA), and Endangered Species Act (ESA) requirements. This includes serving as a technical reviewer of mitigation text for relevant chapters, appendices, technical reports, consultation documents, briefs, and Memos for the Record.
- Provide subject matter expertise on an as-needed basis regarding existing mitigation measures and the history of their development, potential mitigation measures under consideration, mitigation benefits, and the mitigation development process.
- Review mitigation language inputs and improvements within the Protective Measures Assessment Protocol software program, including working with U.S. Fleet Forces Command to ensure language is updated upon completion of new consultation documents.

Education and Work Experience
A Master's degree in fields related to environmental science, marine science, or environmental policy / management is preferred.
Several years of work experience dealing directly with Department of Navy at-sea environmental compliance is highly desirable.
