Description:This office-based position involves evaluating bid specifications and drawings to create comprehensive and accurate project estimates. The Estimator manages and coordinates the estimating process for multiple projects within the water and wastewater treatment industry. Candidates should ideally possess a background in water and wastewater construction, coupled with skills in business, management, budgeting, and cost analysis. Estimators excel at fostering productive collaborations with colleagues and stakeholders, thrive on the challenges of estimating projects, and contribute effectively to project teams.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor and identify available bidding opportunities.
- Request and review proposals and estimates to keep stakeholders informed about new business, awards, or missed opportunities.
- Prepare and finalize bid packages; ensure timely delivery to subcontractors and suppliers; maintain historical data for future reference.
- Order and organize contract documents.
- Maintain and track bidding schedules and deadlines.
- Convert contract documents for new projects into digital formats.
- Set up new projects in Bid2Win estimating software.
- Compile and manage contact lists for subcontractors, suppliers, and SDMWBE for new projects.
- Update insurance requirements for new projects and provide relevant information to the insurance company.
- Coordinate and attend pre-bid and bid meetings.
- Conduct performance evaluations for co-op employees.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or construction management (preferred).
- Experience: Prior experience estimating water/wastewater plant projects is preferred.
- Skills:
- Proven experience as an Estimator.
- Solid technical background with practical understanding and hands-on experience.
- Strong relationship management and client communication skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and multitasking abilities.
- Familiarity with Estimating Software is preferred.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
- Frequent travel by car; proof of insurance and a clean DMV record are required.
- Ability to manage and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Work environment noise levels vary from quiet to loud.
- Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when in the field.
- Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, sit, talk, and hear.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds as needed.
