POSITION SUMMARY: The Crewmember is a part of the Road and Bridge team. This team is responsible for construction and maintenance of roads and bridges in the county that are not part of the state highway system or with a municipality. Under close supervision, this position performs a variety of road maintenance and construction duties for the county. This role is responsible for operating tractor and shredder, cutting and picking up brush off of roads throughout the County, trimming trees, installing traffic and street signs, repairs potholes and performs other duties as assigned.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Operates tractor and shredderPerforms manual labor assignments as needed, cuts brush with hand tools, chips, loads and hauls brush, clears rights-of-way of brush and other debris to improve visibility or diminish road hazardsLocate, assemble, install and repair various traffic signs such as traffic signs, reflective sign posts, traffic legends, raised pavement markers, guard rails and traffic dividersPerforms traffic control and flagging activities as needed; follows safety rules and regulations on all work zone and flagging sites, including placing signs, barricades, traffic cones and other warning devicesAssists in the repair of roadways by preparing roadway, patching potholes, loading dump truck with pea gravel, and striping roadsOperates tools and equipment used in road maintenance and construction, such as chain saws, shovels, rakes, two-way radios, pick-up trucks, backhoes, loaders, tractor mowers, brush chippers, and traffic control devices and similar equipmentKeeps assigned equipment serviced and makes minor repairsMakes written daily inspection reports on equipmentRegular attendance and timeliness are requiredLIMITATIONS AND DISCLAIMER: The above job description is meant to describe the general nature and level of work being performed; it is not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required for the position.

May have to lift heavy boxes or objects up to 100 pounds. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals. Exposure to extreme heat and cold.Ability to see and hear hazards associated with the operation of construction equipmentOther physical efforts as requiredHOURS / SPECIAL CONDITIONS: This position may be required to work a flexible schedule based on the needs of the facility. The position schedule is 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Thursday during the months of March-November and 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday to Friday during the months of November-March.
