Tool & Die Maker
McMullin Manufacturing Corp., located in Brookfield, CT, is a contract manufacturer of short-run metal stampings, sheet metal fabrications and value added assemblies. This role involves designing, creating, and maintaining tools, dies and fixtures used in our production processes.
Essential Job Functions:
- Proven experience as a Tool and Die Maker or similar role in a manufacturing environment.
- Evaluate customer prints & drawings as part of the process of designing and building of dies, tooling & fixtures.
- Fabricate a range of tools including dies, jigs, fixtures, gauges, metal machine parts, die parts, roll form tools, punches, form tools, cams, and special tools; perform precision grinding, boring, or polishing of special tools and dies.
- Maintain simple to complex tooling to meet the requirements of the Production Department.
- Interpret technical schematics and engineering drawings to ensure accuracy in manufacturing.
- Conduct inspection of tools and dies using GD&T principles to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Prepare and examine standard dies or tooling components in preparation for the next run of production.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair tools during press production.
- Communicate effectively with co-workers, receive instructions, and coordinate activities necessary to maintain production and efficiency in the Tool Room. Collaborate with the Tooling and Production Departments to troubleshoot issues related to tooling.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area while adhering to safety protocols.
- Comply with Company safety procedures and work in a safe manner for both personal safety and safety to others.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Proficiency in operating tool room equipment necessary to create precision tools and tool components and fixtures. (I.E., milling machines, surface grinders, lathes, hand tools, etc.) Set up and operate all applicable machine tools and machinist’s hand tools.
- Assemble manufactured tools into working production machines or machine subassemblies.
- Maintain all materials, tools and equipment in good repair and maintain orderly condition of work environment.
- Knowledge of specifications relating to blueprints, quality control plans, and inspection history to identify opportunities to improve tooling and the manufacturing process.
- Knowledge of GD&T standards for quality assurance in tool making and parts inspection.
- Use of both engineering drawings and specifications as well as verbal instruction to produce and assemble dies, machines, jigs, and components. Experience with CAD software for design purposes preferred.
- Diagnose and repair production equipment and tools.
- Report current or potential problems or malfunctions that may affect assignment or operation of equipment.
- Record information required for analysis and decision making including, but not limited to equipment performance, quality, and productivity. The ability to provide detailed documentation on tooling issues and component prints.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral or written form.
- Sound judgment, attention to detail and excellent critical thinking skills.
- Perform other work as directed by supervisor.
- Be able to lift moderate loads regularly.
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel programs.
- An understanding of short run metal stamping tooling and processes preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $38.50 - $50.00 per hour
