GUIDANCE COUNSELOR
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Kentucky Certificate with proper endorsements.
2. Such additional qualifications as the Superintendent or Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS: Principal
SUPERVISES: Classified staff as assigned
JOB GOAL: To provide to all students a developmental preventative guidance
program promoting the mental health necessary for academic
self-sufficiency and responsible group membership.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops a process and procedure for planning, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive developmental program of guidance and counseling.
- Provides a developmental, preventive guidance program to all students within the school.
- Works with individuals and groups of students utilizing a variety of proven strategies in addressing mental, physical and emotional barriers to learning.
- Works with parents, staff and community agencies to meet the mental, physical and emotional needs of students.
- Works with school and district staff in designing and coordinating a testing program that helps students identify abilities, aptitudes, achievements and interests.
- Participates in required training relative to job assignment, supervisor approved professional growth plan, school/district initiatives or as directed by the Principal.
- Uses technology to support instruction; access and manipulate data; enhance professional growth and productivity; communicate and collaborate with colleagues, parents and community; to conduct research/solve problems.
- Participates in school-related activities, programs or meetings as assigned by the Principal and or Superintendent.
- Adheres to school/district, state/federal policies, regulations and laws.
- Maintains a variety of records as required by school or district policies, state and federal law, or as assigned by the Principal.
- Supervises students to ensure student safety.
- Facilitates successful student transition from one level of education to the next.
- Utilizes assessment tools; individual planning skills and counseling in guiding individuals and groups of students through development of educational career plans.
- Works with students in developing behaviors and character traits essential for successful functioning in school, society and the workplace.
- Provides leadership within the school, district and education profession to improve student learning as well as support district and state initiatives.
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal or the Superintendent.
