McNeese State University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Director of Student Engagement and Leadership. This is a full-time, 12–month, unclassified position. The appointment is available to begin as early as April 1, 2025, and is intended to be filled no later than May 15, 2025.

SALARY RANGE: $50,000 - $53,000 (based on education, qualifications, and experience)

Position Duties/Responsibilities

The Director of Student Engagement and Leadership oversees Fraternity and Sorority Life programs, ensuring compliance with university regulations and coordinates key student engagement initiatives. This role involves supervising student leaders, organizing leadership development, and assessing the impact of student activities on retention and engagement.

  • Oversee operations of internal governing boards and monitoring compliance with University, state, and federal mandates relative to Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL)
  • Serve as a coordinator of Cowboy Camp New Student Orientation
  • Recruit and hire students to serve as “Rowdy Rider” orientation leaders
  • Assist the Dean of Students by investigating and adjudicating conduct cases involving student organizations including FSL groups
  • Provide training, guidance, and assistance to University-sanctioned fraternities, sororities, and Greek-lettered honor societies in planning, organizing, and delivering events and activities that enhance the student experience and strengthen the University’s recruitment and retention objectives
  • Responsible for understanding, interpreting, formulating, and evaluating policies and procedures related to FSL
  • Coordinate FSL recruiting, registration, workshops, and other developmental programming for the Fraternity/Sorority Life community
  • Coordinate annual FSL programs such as the Off-Campus Retreat, New Member Workshop, President-Advisor’s Breakfast, Greek Week, Academic Year Wrap-Up, etc.
  • Serve as a liaison between Greek and non-Greek organizations and campus administrators
  • Facilitate peer mediation training and conflict mediation services for FSL students
  • Create and implement ongoing assessments for FSL activities, events, and programs, while assisting in collection of data, tracking statistics and retention rates, and drafting reports relative to the impact of FSL at McNeese State University
  • Partner with community and institutional personnel for program development and delivery
  • Co-Develop, promote, host, and evaluate programs in social life, leadership training, risk management, law and policy compliance, and other relevant areas of campus life
  • Hire and supervise graduate assistants, student workers, Cowboy Camp “Rowdy Rider” orientation leaders
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Students and other supervision

Required/Preferred Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution with (3) years of professional experience in student affairs related work
  • Experience in student development, student organizations, Greek life, multicultural affairs, retention/mentorship, student activities, or similar student life role
  • A commitment to starting and earning a Master’s degree in a discipline relative to work performed in the position
  • Knowledge of fraternity/sorority life practices as a member of an organization or direct partner to an organization
  • Evidence of strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience managing program budgets
  • Some form of supervision experience
  • Ability to utilize computer software to draft professional correspondence, produce basic graphics, and other published works associated with the position
  • Ability to work frequent evenings, nights, and weekends during fall/spring semesters with prior notice
  • Experience working with diverse populations in a state university or similar setting
  • Evidence of an energetic, student-centered approach to program development and delivery

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in student affairs, student services, educational leadership, higher education or closely related field
  • (4) or more years of experience in student affairs related work including graduate assistantships or internships
  • Experience as a leader of a fraternity or sorority while in college or at the alumni level
  • Experience as a leader of a college campus student organization or student organization advisor
  • Knowledge of new student orientation programs as a student leader or coordinating/collaborating professional
  • Experience supervising full-time employees, graduate assistants/intern, student workers, and other support personnel
  • Familiarity with relevant legal and governance issues at the campus, local, state, and federal levels
  • Experience in policy development, enforcement, and compliance monitoring in an educational setting

Transcripts from Foreign Universities: Prospective faculty submitting transcripts from foreign universities or schools must have the coursework evaluated for equivalency to United States-accredited coursework by a University-approved agency. The prospective faculty member is responsible for the cost of the evaluation. McNeese typically accepts evaluations by World Education Services ( or Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc.
