The Cumberland County Board of Education in Fayetteville, North Carolina, is seeking a highly qualified leader to serve as Superintendent. The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position by July 1, 2025.
McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development, has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the Board of Education in identifying and screening the candidates.

The Qualifications
Experience/Background – a preference for the next leader of Cumberland County Schools is to have experience working at all levels of education including someone who has been a teacher, Principal, and Superintendent. The new superintendent should understand school system finances and budgeting. It is also important to have knowledge of current academic issues and the dynamics of what makes Cumberland County unique.
Communicator – The new superintendent must demonstrate transparency by being able to communicate with all stakeholders. A willingness to listen and project honesty, integrity, and trust will help sustain positive relationships between the board and all constituencies.
Problem Solver – The new superintendent should have the ability to identify strong leadership skills, develop accountability plans, and possess confidence in decision making processes. It is imperative to come into the system with a vision for improving all aspects of the system in a clear and methodical manner and have the courage to address all issues.
Educational knowledge - Having a proven track record of leading low performing schools to success is very important. The new superintendent must have knowledge of school turn-around practices that will move all Cumberland County Schools to success. It is important to be well-versed in educational research and understand how curriculum and instruction work together to improve teaching and learning.
Student-centered – The new superintendent should ensure that students are always the #1 focus for all work in Cumberland County. Understanding how to motivate teachers, faculty, parents, and students will lead to developing policies and procedures that meet the needs of everyone.
Salary: $250,000 - $300,000 (Commensurate with candidate's skills and experience)
