Position Description for Pulaski County Special School District, Little Rock, Arkansas  

 

The Pulaski County Special School District, Little Rock, Arkansas, Board of Education is seeking a highly qualified Superintendent of Schools.  The Board wishes to have a successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position on July 1, 2025.

 

McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the Board of Education in identifying and screening the candidates.

 

Enrollment: 12,244

 

Location: 6 miles south of downtown Little Rock

 

The Qualifications

 

The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership. The Board recognizes that selecting a superintendent is one of the most important decisions it will make.

 

The Pulaski County Special School District Board of Education is seeking a Superintendent:

 

  1. Who is eligible to be licensed in Arkansas and prefers an applicant who has administrative experience in a district similar to PCSSD.
  2. Who understands school finance, experience in budgeting for the present and future challenges, is conservative in managing the district resources, and knowledgeable in school law.
  3. Who is a proven leader that is team oriented, a delegator who develops a systems approach to monitoring operations, decisive, and fair when making hard decisions.
  4. Who is an instructional leader that will work toward a balance between use of technology and classroom instruction and ensures the district implements the LEARNS Act and other State initiatives with fidelity.
  5. Who promotes academic excellence and a culture of high expectations for staff, promotes staff development, models a student’s first approach, and understands the data drivers in the district.
  6. Who promotes fairness and is consistent in maintaining discipline and order in the classrooms.
  7. Who is a collaborative leader, has strong written and oral communication skills, is approachable, and will listen to the stakeholders served in the district.
  8. Who will promote the district, in a manner that will attract students, create positive media relations, and establish a professional network within the State.
  9. Who understands the dynamics of serving four distinct and different communities which have diverse needs and knows the importance of having a presence in the communities and schools.
  10. Who values the importance of all staff, parents, and the businesses in all the communities served.
  11. Who is a person of integrity and high morals, a servant leader who values and is transparent in sharing the district goals and challenges and establishes an elevated level of accountability for all staff and self.
  12. Who has proven to be trustworthy and will promote unity in working with the Board of Education.
  13. Who is a visionary leader that is not hesitant to review existing programs and change current practices when proven to contribute to higher student achievement.

 

Search Timeline:

 

  • Closing date for applications: March 11, 2025 (11:30 p.m. central time)
  • Board selects finalists to interview: March 31, April 1, 2, or 3, 2025
  • Interviews with the Board: April 7-10, 2025
  • Selection of new Superintendent: TBD
  • Start date: July 1, 2025
