What are the responsibilities and job description for the Faculty – School of Occupational Therapy position at MCPHS?
The School of Occupational Therapy seeks a full-time faculty member to deliver high quality learning experiences and education for students on its Manchester NH campus (this is not a remote position). Faculty rank will be determined by the candidate's experience and qualifications. The successful candidate will engage in teaching, service and scholarship activities, and work collaboratively with colleagues across the University (including at the other two campus locations in Boston and Worcester) as well as with the Program Director. Additionally, the successful candidate provides mentorship to students and contributes to the visibility, impact and reputation of the University and its programs through research and scholarly engagement.
The school focuses on developing strong faculty instructors through providing mentoring, Habits of Teaching training, and university-wide instruction support and learning/training opportunities. The university supports professional development, professional organization involvement and broad service activities associated with scholarship and teaching.
- Deliver didactic, laboratory and/or experiential in-person instruction in the MSOT Graduate program. The MSOT Graduate program is on-campus with in-class and in-laboratory instruction.
- Provide students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines and evaluation criteria aligned with School of Occupational Therapy policies.
- Provide engaging assignments that demonstrate real-world applications of concepts covered.
- Support incorporation of inclusion into the curriculum, as well as co-curricular experiences, to broaden the education of students and expand their knowledge of health disparities.
- Participate in service activities; serve on committees; serve on regional, state, or national organization committees and volunteer activities; represent the program and University in/at community functions; attend School and University activities such as Commencement and ceremonies; and support student activities such as health fairs and service projects.
- Participate in scholarship resulting in conference presentations, publishable manuscripts, peer-reviewed instructional materials, or other outcomes consistent with expectations for scholarly activities described in the Faculty Manual.
- Use the University's learning management system (Blackboard) to post syllabus, assignments, and other materials and to communicate with students.
- Advise and assist students providing office hours or scheduled appointments, by phone or email, and through other University-approved mechanisms.
- Provide service including student mentoring, ongoing course development, and assessment.
- Attend and participate in monthly School and Department meetings, University ceremonies, and other major events, and serves as a member of University, School and/or Department committees, as assigned.
- Contribute to periodic reviews and revisions of departmental course offerings.
- Maintain advanced knowledge in discipline and areas of expertise.
- Build and maintain relationships with professional organizations involved with the healthcare sector.
- Assist the School of Occupational Therapy in meeting and maintaining ACOTE standards.
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor.
- A master's degree (earned doctoral degree preferred) in Occupational Therapy or associated field from an accredited institution.
- Initial certification from NBCOT and eligibility for NH occupational therapy license or hold a license in professional field.
- Possess documented expertise in one's area(s) of teaching responsibility and knowledge of the content delivery method.
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical practice expertise as an occupational therapist in one or more of the following practice areas: mental health, pediatrics, geriatrics, community-based practice or physical disability as determined by program needs or associated profession.
- Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience at the college/university level
- Commitment to graduate and/or professional education and student success
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Must be able to work independently and effectively interact with a wide array of parties at all levels (students, faculty, administration/staff, alumni, and external constituents, including healthcare industry professionals)
- Record of scholarly activities commensurate with an academic appointment
- Practice and teaching experience in theory clinical research, environmental assessment, management at the college level.
- Background in Occupational Therapy History and Contemporary Occupational Theories.

- Standing, sitting, manual dexterity, ability to move between offices and floors of buildings
- Ability to meet deadlines and perform well under pressure
- Ability to be physically in attendance at designated worksite during scheduled work hours
- Normal range of vision and hearing (with or without correction)
- Ability to lift up to 5-10 lbs.
