QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:

 

Required

Associate’s degree required or equivalent experience (2 years of industry experience = 1 year of college).  A combination of experience and education may be used to meet the Associate’s degree requirement.

                                 

Preferred

Bachelor’s degree or National Association of Pupil Transportation Certification

 

Experience:

 

Required

Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in Transportation Operations, which can include CDL certified school bus driver experience

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

All day-to-day operational functions included in the supervision, assignment and evaluation of all drivers and monitors for the safe transportation of special education students. Supervises and evaluates duties and responsibilities of the Field Safety Coordinators, Lead Trainer and Training department.

 

RESPONSIBILITES: 

  1. Must demonstrate prompt and outstanding attendance for regular work day. Work hours may vary throughout the year
  2. Ability to effectively plan and organize
  3. Ability to plan routes, maintain schedule integrity and supervise driver route service
  4. Must possess supervisory skills related to all aspects of employee management, including the processing of payroll, disciplinary actions, employee assignment and processing, implementation and maintenance of safety programs and employee evaluation
  5. Serves as a liaison between transportation staff, principals, district personnel and the general public in matters concerning transportation
  6. Must possess specific knowledge of rules and regulations regarding regular and special education pupil transportation
  7. Under the supervision of the Director of Transportation, Assistant Director will provide first-line administration for all daily bus operations and may act on the Director’s behalf in his/her absence
  8. Under the supervision of the Director of Transportation, Assistant Director will oversee regular education drivers, their route assignments, disciplinary issues, payroll verification of hours worked, preparation and scheduling of regular and special education routes, field trips and extended run assignments
  9. Oversees the supervision of drivers to ensure upkeep of bus cleanliness, processing of all paperwork. Responsible for investigating accidents and reporting findings to the Director of Transportation
  10. Facilitates and coordinates the investigation, and proposed solutions regarding transportation related student disciplinary issues with drivers, school administrators, and parents as needed. This can range from telephonic conferences with parents and drivers, to in house meetings as well. The Assistant Director will also be available to meet with school administrators, parents and drivers at respective school.  Keeps the Director of Transportation informed of any serious infractions of a safety related nature
  11. Supervises Training Department and all functions related to recruitment and training of employees. Keeps the Director of Transportation informed of any problems or related concerns
  12. Under the oversight of the Director of Transportation, offers recommendations regarding the hiring and termination of drivers and monitors. Monitors quality of driver and monitor training, CDL certification and driver assignment. Reports problems to the Director of Transportation. Oversees all annual driver and monitor performance evaluations. Assists and assesses need and schedules or training deemed necessary for assigned drivers and monitors. This training is intended only as an enhancement and will not in any way supersede the departmental training program
  13. Verifies and/or validates Field Safety Coordinator distribution materials to drivers, transportation staff and school administrators with approval from Director
  14. Assist the Director in the maintenance, operation and supervision of department phone system, computers, voice mail system and other related equipment. With approval of the Director submits building and grounds work orders as necessary
  15. Maintains and processes all driver orientation materials to include updated forms, the driver handbook, policy and procedures letters, route books; to include all schedules, maps, run directions, parking plans, rosters and equipment with Director of Transportation approval
  16. Responsible for verification, recording and processing of all additional pay input for monthly departmental payroll
  17. May be assigned as interim on-site supervisor-in-charge for operations, maintenance and building functions in the absence of the Director
  18. Performs other operational related duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation, the Assistant Superintendent of Operations, and the Superintendent or his designated representative

 

 

 Skills, Knowledge and Performance Requirements:

  • Must possess proficiency in use of computer. Possess knowledge and proficiency in use of Micro-Soft Suite and other data base related software application
  • Must be available to attend local, regional and or State Meeting/ Conferences as directed by Transportation Director
  • Must pass DOE annual physical, must be willing to submit to drug and alcohol testing as may be required by law, and must qualify for or possess a valid Georgia CDL license with required passenger (P) and school bus driver (S) endorsements
  • Must adhere to all state and local traffic laws while operating a school bus. Is required to provide permission for periodic inquiries to their Motor Vehicle Records and the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Requires performing tasks such as sitting, squatting, walking, twisting, bending and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to use hands or fingers, to handle feel or reach with hands and arms.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40lbs.
  • Utilization of specific vision abilities required including close and distant vision and the ability to focus.
  • Will periodically be exposed to the normal noise and environmental hazards associated with exposure to diesel powered school buses.
