Oversight of 4,500 Registered and Advanced Practice Nurses

The Chief Nurse Executive leads the institution's comprehensive nursing professional practice, across all environments of clinical, and is accountable for the outcomes of the evidence-based nursing practice across the institution. Leads the creation and implementation of a visionary strategic agenda for nursing that links clinical practice, education, and research.
This role is the patient care executive responsible for the professional practice of nursing and other designated patient care services. Ensures integration of services and compliance with long-range objectives and strategies, including the provision of excellent quality services and responsible fiscal management.
The Chief Nurse Executive leads the Meyers Institute of Oncology Nursing which is focused on the professional and personal development of nurses funded by a generous philanthropic donation and also leads the academic department of nursing by advancing a strong support structure for the professional development of nurse scientists and the further improvement of clinical nursing excellence.
Key Functions

Serves as a member of the Clinical Operations Executive leadership team in setting the strategic agenda for patient care operations.

Standardizes, develops and ensures the appropriate translation of evidence-based care into daily practice throughout the institution.

Provides strategic direction by establishing goals and nursing strategic priorities that are congruent with institutional goals and promote the participation of nurses in decision making.

Champions an environment that engages staff and others in decision making, problem solving, and providing high quality safety outcomes.

Leads quality and operations improvement initiatives that enhance clinical outcomes, patient and family satisfaction and promote high reliability organization (HRO) practices including psychological safety and Just Culture, in concert with leaders across the organization.

Creates an environment that supports the advancement of professional nursing and the development of a robust nursing workforce to ensure the ability of the institution to meet future needs for professional nurses.

Leads the academic arm of Nursing in advancing nursing and interdisciplinary research, resulting in improved patient-care outcomes through the implementation of evidence-based practice.

Partners with key stakeholders across the institution to create short- and long-term strategies that will positively impact the business and reputation of the institution.

Oversees all facets of human resource management for reporting areas and ensure that all applicable institutional policies and procedures are effectively managed.
Education
Required: Master’s degree in nursing, healthcare administration or business. In order to maintain the institution’s designation as a Magnet organization, if the Master’s degree is not in nursing, then either a baccalaureate or doctoral degree must be in nursing.
Preferred: Doctoral degree
Experience
Required: Ten (10) years of experience as a transformational nurse executive leader who possesses the skills to clearly articulate a vision, be innovative, inspire others, and set high expectations for achievement; five (5) years of experience as a Chief Nursing Officer or Assistant/Associate Chief Nursing Officer in a highly matrixed academic hospital.
Preferred: Ten (10) years of experience as a Chief Nursing Officer in an academic hospital environment.
Licensure/Certification
Required: State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN)
Nurse Executive Board Certification (NE-BC / NEA-BC) via ANCC or equivalent bodies e.g., AONL reflecting executive leadership skills and capabilities or commitment to complete within 36 months of hire.
