What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr Carpenter position at MD Anderson Cancer Center Careers?
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6am-2:30pm, although that is somewhat negotiable.
SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Carpenter position is to provide construction, modification, repair and installation of casework and related cabinetry products to all facilities at UTMDACC.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs general carpentry work in alteration, repair and maintenance of buildings, furnishings and millwork. May inspect contracted carpentry work to ensure repairs and installations are compliant.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Preconstruction reviewProvide preconstruction review of assigned projects This should include review of drawings, prints, specifications and verbal communications from supervisor or clients.
Cabinet FabricationBuilds and/or repairs cabinets of various sizes and designs, tables, doors, shelves, bookcases and a wide variety of other architectural elements. Items may include wood, plastic laminate, solid surface, Plexiglas materials and various other materials. Must be familiar with the cutting, tooling and proper applications of said materials.
Cabinet InstallationInstallations of casework in various locations through out the Institution.
SafetyMaintain a safe work environment using protection as required by Environmental Health & Safety.Follow standards for safety and workmanship. Leave work area in proper condition.Maintains tools to meet safety requirements
On-CallThe employee may be expected to be part of an on-call group, and when assigned this responsibility, will be compensated for that time.When on-call, the employee must be available and be able to respond in accordance to policy.Periods of alert when Emergency Conditions may be expected are not considered on-call.
Essential PersonnelThis position is considered “essential personnel” in the event of suspension of normal operations due to inclement weather or other emergencies.They are required to perform duties as outlined in the Emergency Management Plans.
Incidental WorkOther incidental or related duties as required.
Technology Integrationrequirement of this position is to be competent and expected to enter data into mobile devices while working away from your workstation, where wi-fi is available.In areas where wi-fi is not available, data is expected to be entered or uploaded at the earliest opportunity.
Other duties as assigned
High school diploma or equivalent. Five years journeyman level carpentry experience in the general repair and maintenance of buildings and fixtures.
