Functions :
Responsible for clinical expertise within the Houston Area Location which includes delivery of radiation oncology, medical oncology and infusion therapy services, and surgical oncology. Plans and evaluates area compliance within institutional / regulatory policies and procedures. Ensures scheduling and assignment / reassignment of staff to meet the needs of the patients. Supports clinical competence and professional development of the staff. Provides direct patient care approximately 50% of the time.
Scope :
Collaborates with assigned Center's clinical leadership, staff and local community to ensure the delivery of quality patient care and customer service. Ensures personnel's adherence to competencies, policies, procedures and guidelines. Manages staff performance and establishes and maintains processes which support the business operations of the RCC. Interacts with RCC and main campus colleagues to address issues and opportunities of common interest.
KEY FUNCTIONS
Ensures adherence to the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Texas, institutional standards of care and policies and procedures and external regulatory agencies :
Ensures that staff and RCC are compliant with external regulatory agency requirements (e.g. JC, HIPAA, Magnet etc.).
Ensures maintenance of personnel records in compliance with Joint Commission and institutional requirements.
Ensures single point of review is completed within defined timeframe.
Monitors Center's aesthetics and functionality by collaborating with Facilities Management regarding property maintenance issues.
Collaborates with NM / Director in developing and updating policies and procedures.
Coordinates personnel activities of the Center including staff education, selection, counseling, and evaluation :
Assumes responsibility for the recruitment of clinical nurses and clerical staff.
Collaborates with NM / Director regarding hiring needs and decisions.
Demonstrates effective interviewing and employee selection skills to meet unit needs.
Ensures respective Center's staff is appropriately cross-trained by assisting in the orientation of new staff as well as precept nurses in Radiation Oncology, Infusion Therapy and Medical Oncology, and Surgical Oncology as well as other services.
Addresses employee issues in a timely manner.
Develops and maintains effective staffing plans.
Ensures the provision of safe and effective patient care and business services :
Develops goals / objectives consistent with identified best practices and evaluates outcomes accordingly.
Ensures effective triage and coordination of patient appointments between the RCC and main campus.
Collaborates with the Patient Access Supervisor to ensure effective and efficient Business Center operations.
Serves as a professional role model and mentor :
Effectively models role of leader as facilitator, coach, mentor and group leader.
Demonstrates professional accountability by maintaining proficiency in assigned role and involvement in professional organizations. Seeks opportunities to broaden business perspective and knowledge.

EDUCATION
Required :
Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
EXPERIENCE
Required :
Three years of clinical nursing experience.
Successful completion of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center New Graduate Nurse Residency Program can be substituted for two of the three required years of clinical nursing experience.
LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION
Required :
Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN).
Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Preferred :
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
OTHER
Required :
Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
