What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Director, Philanthropy position at MD Anderson Cancer Center?
MISSION STATEMENT
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is one of the world's most respected centers devoted exclusively to cancer patient care, research, education and prevention. Our mission is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public. With a vision to be the premier cancer center in the world, based on the excellence of our people, our research-driven patient care and our science, we are Making Cancer History®.
MD Anderson has more than 26,000 employees, including over 1,900 faculty members and approximately 1,500 onsite and offsite volunteers.
POSITION SUMMARY
This Associate Director position resides within Donor Communications, and more specifically, the team's Proposal Pillar. The position's primary responsibility is to write, edit and format proposals that support MD Anderson's fundraising goals and priorities. This requires understanding the donor audience; connecting with gift officers, institutional leaders and faculty researchers to exchange information needed to create proposals; being able to communicate the activity, impact and funding needs of priority programs; drafting proposals and grant applications from scratch; and shepherding documents through review and revisions.
While the focus of this position is fundraising proposals, other work as assigned will include donor cultivation pieces, impact reports, executive correspondence, special events communications support and more.
Last fiscal year, MD Anderson raised $333 million, and a significant percentage of those dollars were connected to proposals written by members of Donor Communications. The Associate Director will join an experienced, creative team of fundraising professionals who produce compelling, targeted collateral for donors of all levels. We tell MD Anderson's story in ways that inspire giving - equipping frontline fundraisers with the material they need to meet goals and advance the institution's mission. Our vision is to be the best development writing team among non-profits nationwide based on our expertise, innovation and success.
The ideal candidate will be skilled in writing and editing, with a strong ability to craft compelling narratives for philanthropic initiatives aimed at engaging our stakeholders. This role requires excellent project management skills, along with experience in writing fundraising communications for nonprofit organizations. Experience in writing and editing proposals for stakeholders is also highly preferred
JOB-SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Project Execution
Work independently to execute work assigned through the team's intake form. Commit to process adherence, transparent and consistent communication with stakeholders, and responsible management of files. There is an expectation to meet deadlines or communicate with manager and gift officers when that is not possible.

Partner with Donor Communications peers, Philanthropy staff, division leadership and faculty on strategy development and strategy execution in support of communication projects. Use voice to reinforce team process and advise on communications best practices.
Perception and Attentiveness
Accurately assess interests and needs from stakeholders; organize and present information in thoughtful and engaging ways; successfully shift between multiple activities and sources of information; maintain situational awareness, cultural awareness and institutional awareness; and adeptly navigate cross-functional teams in support of team and division plans.
