The Sr. Health Education Specialist will serve as the primary liaison between the research team and the enrolled healthcare centers for a program called Taking Texas Tobacco Free, a comprehensive, evidence-based tobacco-free workplace program. The Sr. Health Education Specialist will work with the healthcare organizations we partner with to provide continued support and technical assistance to their staff and to the populations they serve in their smoking quit attempts. The components involved in our program include providing ongoing educational opportunities and specialized tobacco cessation trainings for staff, guidance on developing and implementing policies, various tobacco-cessation related resources for distribution at facilities, and aiding organizations in their community outreach efforts.
Our team as a whole is focused on better understanding how the social and environmental context affects people's cancer-related risk behaviors, with a focus on groups of people that experience poor health outcomes and an emphasis on tobacco dependence. Our Lab works in partnership with community groups and organizations both locally and across the state.
