- Lead and Mentor: Serve as the lead Animal Control Officer by training, coaching, and scheduling Animal Control Officers 1 and 2.
- Patrol and Respond: Patrol assigned areas in Nashville-Davidson County, respond to calls for assistance, and rescue animals in need.
- Investigate and Enforce: Investigate allegations of animal cruelty, apprehend stray animals, and enforce local and state animal control laws.
- Rescue and Care: Transport injured or ill animals to shelters and veterinarians, perform field euthanasia when necessary, and ensure humane treatment of all animals.
- Community Engagement: Educate the public on animal control safety and health issues, and participate in outreach and liaison programs.
- Documentation and Legal Support: Prepare investigative reports and legal documents, and testify in court as needed.

- Certified Animal Euthanasia Technician (CAET)
Must hold or obtain CAET certification within six months of hire.
- Driver's License and Vehicle Requirements
Valid Class D driver's license, access to a personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee law. - Pre-Exposure Rabies Vaccinations
Must receive vaccinations before starting field duties.
- Certified Animal Euthanasia Technician (CAET) – or eligible to obtain within 6 months
- Valid Class D driver's license
- Pre-exposure rabies vaccinations
- Animal Handling: Proficient in the safe and humane handling of animals
- Law Enforcement: Knowledge of animal control laws and ability to enforce them
- Emergency Response: Ability to manage animal-related emergencies and provide first aid
- Customer Service: Strong communication and interpersonal skills for public interaction
